The main event of Friday, April 6’s Impact vs. Lucha Underground event from New Orleans was scheduled to feature Alberto El Patron teaming with Penta 0M (aka Pentagon Jr.) against Rey Fenix and Austin Aries. Aries and El Patron will wrestle for Impact’s World Title at their next pay-per-view (PPV), Redemption on April 22. Earlier in the day, they took part in a press conference which ended in a brawl angle, and Alberto leaving in a huff.
That doesn’t have anything to do with why he wasn’t in the Impact vs. Lucha Underground main event, however, at least according to PWInsider’s report on the matter. Insider’s sources in the locker room tell them that El Patron no showed, while a company source said he called to tell them he was sick and wouldn’t be there.
Either way, the main event was turned into a Triple Threat which didn’t build toward Redemption as was probably the plan. Unless they’re working the Brock Lesnar gimmick... because the crowd at The Sugar Mill was not pleased, using Alberto’s WWE name and chanting “F*** Del Rio”.
Whichever name he goes under, Alberto has a bit of a history of this sort of drama - including missing a 2016 show for one of Lucha Underground’s parent companies AAA due to getting cut in what he called a “street fight” which occurred after he was defending his then-girlfriend Paige’s honor.
Hopefully he’s feeling better, and Impact has a back-up plan for April 22...
