Sensing an opportunity, Impact Wrestling is pushing to make the fallout from the spot where a baseball bat swung by Sami Callihan hit Eddie Edwards in the face, sending him to the hospital with broken bones and in need of stitches, into a major headline-grabbing feud.
Since the episode containing that moment aired on Mar. 1, Callihan’s beefed with Jim Cornette and Kassius Ohno online, been interviewed by TMZ and hit the podcast circuit. He also was the featured player on the promotion’s weekly media conference call. They aired today (Mar. 14)’s call live on their Facebook, and used it to announce an “I Quit” match between Swingin’ Sami and Edwards for their big WrestleMania weekend show on Friday, April 6 at WrestleCon in New Orleans.
That show, Impact vs. Lucha Underground, will go head-to-head with WWE’s Hall of Fame ceremony, but will miss the other big feuds that have many of the fans with which Impact is hoping to attract using this program - Cody Rhodes vs. Kenny Omega and a probable Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa match will be happening Saturday for Ring of Honor and NXT, respectively.
Good news is, there’s a low cost to check out Callihan vs. Edwards “I Quit” match, since it will air free on Impact’s Twitch channel.
Now, will Callihan be there as his Impact gimmick, or as LU’s Jeremiah Crane?
