Impact Wrestling moves to later time slot as ratings continue to drop

Impact Wrestling fans are soon going to have to stay up later to catch the action.

PW Insider reported today that in a couple weeks, Impact is going to be pushed back two hours from 8 pm ET to 10 pm ET on the Pop TV lineup. It will take effect on Oct. 25, meaning fallout episode from this Sunday’s Bound for Glory pay-per-view will still air at 8 pm.

Impact hasn’t yet announced the change themselves yet, but just checking my DVR schedule shows that in two weeks, it’s scheduled for 10 pm.

The wrestling promotion’s ratings have been declining as of late, which is likely at least part of the reason the television station decided on the move. According to Showbuzz Daily, this week’s episode pulled in 183K viewers with a rating of 0.04. For comparison, reruns of The Young and the Restless that Pop TV airs at 7 pm had 308K viewers.

Here’s their trend over the last month:

  • This week: 183K / 0.04
  • Oct. 4: 190K / 0.05
  • Sept. 27: 222K / 0.06
  • Sept. 20: 229K / 0.05
  • Sept. 13: 258K / 0.07

It’s hard to imagine pushing the show back to a later hour (without much warning) is going to help Impact perform better in the ratings. 8 pm is the primetime slot. Maybe they think Thursday Night Football competition is really hurting, but it’s also likely they think a different program at 8 pm may fare better.

We’ll update this when Impact announces it on their end. And we’ll keep track of their numbers after their move back two hours.

You can find the recap of last night’s episode here.
