Impact Wrestling preview (Nov. 23, 2017): The dreaded turkey suit

Impact Wrestling YouTube

Impact Wrestling returns tonight (Nov. 23) from the Aberdeen Pavilion with their third episode from the last set of tapings.

Here’s what’s advertised for tonight:

  • Johnny Impact and Alberto El Patron are back
  • The turkey suit returns
  • Matt Sydal vs. Tyson Dux (NOTE: this is actually advertised for next week)
  • Eli Drake’s Gravy Train Turkey Trot

As per usual, here are our five questions about Impact tonight:

1) Who’s wearing the turkey suit?

It’s Thanksgiving and hopefully you’re all enjoying yourselves with however you’re celebrating.

Someone on Impact won’t be celebrating tonight, however. Because it being Thanksgiving means one Impact talent has to wear the dreaded turkey suit. It’s tradition at this point.

The turkey suit is just that: A turkey costume. Some of those having to wear it in the past were current WWE champion AJ Styles and Ring of Honor tag champion Alex Shelley. (This original said Eric Young, but he actually avoided the honor twice.) So who will get the honor this year?

My guess: Trevor Lee. He does incredulous very well and it’d be pretty funny to watch him huffing and puffing about having to wear the ridiculous thing. However, I think Chris Adonis, the heel lackey to Champion Eli Drake, is another good possibility.

2) Who’s in the tournament to crown a new Knockouts champion?

They announced on social media last week that they’ll crown a new Knockouts champion via miniature tournament. There will be two triple threat matches and the winner of those will face each other one on one for the vacant title.

So far, Rosemary, Laurel Van Ness, & Sienna have been announced.

Assuming Allie takes a spot, that still leaves two women that will need to be brought in to fill out the field.

3) Will the holiday mean tonight will be light on content?

This episode was taped weeks ago so the holiday didn’t affect that. But they still know it’s Thanksgiving night and less people will be tuning in. Because of that, will this episode tread water? It won’t be completely filler, but they may hold out all the bigger plot turns until next week when people are back on their normal schedules.

Given there’s nothing major advertised as of writing this outside Matt Sydal fighting Tyson Dux, it’s possible that they are holding out the bigger stuff for the likely larger audience.

4) Are Johnny Impact and Alberto more focused on each other than on Eli Drake?

Johnny Impact lost his title match against Eli Drake mainly due to Alberto El Patron. So on the fallout episode, he had his eyes set on Patron. Patron defended himself against Impact but his main reason for the initial interference wasn’t because he hates Johnny but because he believes no one should get a shot at Eli Drake until he does.

This is becoming quite the triangle. Eventually Eli will defend the title against both of them, whether it be separately or one on one. If Johnny and Alberto have to go through each other first remains to be seen.

We will see Eli tonight as part of his Gravy Train Turkey Trot, whatever the hell that is.

5) Will EC3 have more words for Matt Sydal?

Two weeks ago, when Matt Sydal was successful in a match, EC3 came out to point out that Sydal is really good - unless there’s something at stake. He claimed Matt has no killer instinct to get the job done. Then last week, EC3 showed a little of that instinct himself when he cheated to beat Fallah Bahh and retain the Grand Championship.

With Sydal back in action, does EC3 have more to say to him? My bet is yes.

Impact Wrestling airs tonight at 8 EST on Pop TV. Who’s watching?
