Let’s Say Nice Things About... The New Day

New Day

In an effort to bring some positivity to professional wrestling—and the world for that matter—Cageside Seats and its community will say nice things about people and things in wrestling every single day throughout 2017.

A reminder of the rules: only positivity allowed here. No back-handed compliments, and CERTAINLY NO NEGATIVITY. If you don’t have something nice to say, keep it to yourself, or take it elsewhere. Negative comments will be deleted and you may be subjected to a ban. Cool? Cool.

Today’s subject: the longest reigning tag team champions in WWE history, The New Day.

I’ll start. Let’s all go ahead and admit it now: The New Day wasn’t supposed to work and it should have failed a month or two in. After all, they debuted on Smackdown, which at the time was a taped show.

Eventually, the trio embraced the cold reality that overly positive African-Americans wasn’t going to get cheered in the 21st century, so they became OVERLY POSITIVE AFRICAN-AMERICANS. And of course crowds across the country and around the world began embracing them.

Also making it work is they’re largely themselves and they enjoy doing it and they clearly enjoy doing it. Sure they’re not for everybody, and not every gimmick has to be for everybody (I’m not sure such a gimmick exists in the 21st century). But these three—two, I guess—are having fun with it, and they’ll gladly continue to cash those royalty checks for all the New Day merch you continue to buy.

Ok, now you do that. Say something nice about The New Day.

And if you have a suggestion for a future “Let’s Say Nice Things About...”, hit me up on Twitter @notoriouseddie. I promise I won’t bite.
