Like a House Afire (ep. 30): Daniel Bryan & how pro wrestling reacts to injuries

Welcome to another episode of Like a House Afire, a weekly-ish video-cast that runs down some hot topics in the world of pro wrestling with opinion and analysis from yours truly.

Over the course of this week, news of Daniel Bryan's condition escalated from rumor to his officially being pulled from WWE's European tour. That, along with some other recent examples, got me to thinking about how different pro wrestling's current response to an injured worker is from other sports/entertainments and the business' not-so-distant past. And it seems that one of the biggest factors driving that change is the reaction of communites like this one to news that a performer is hurting.

Here's some background on the buzz that drove this episode:

Corey Graves' retirement from in-ring work and WWE's handling of it

Richie Steamboat giving up wrestling due to back injury

Word comes out that DB is "hurting"

A Cagesider responds to the Bryan injury rumors

Bryan is pulled from the European tour

Keith Harris' reporting on the Bryan situation being concussion-related
