Royal Rumble Rewind 1995: Shawn Michaels goes the distance

In this series, we look back on every Royal Rumble event to date. Up next: Royal Rumble 1995, featuring the first time a wrestler entered at number one and went the distance.

Event: Royal Rumble 1995
Date: January 22, 1995
Location: USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida
Time: 38:41
Winner: Shawn Michaels
Last Eliminated: British Bulldog
Iron Man: Shawn Michaels
Quickest Out: Owen Hart/Mabel
Most Eliminations: Shawn Michaels

Although it featured Cageside darling Shawn Michaels entering at number one and last eliminating British Bulldog -- who himself entered at number two -- to win the match, this is widely regarded as one of the worst Rumble matches of all time.

That's because it featured few true stars and far too many jobbers during a dark period for the World Wrestling Federation. It was a transitional year where new stars were beginning to emerge. This was the real beginning of that for Michaels, who was put over big as a singles competitor for the first time. But it happened in the shortest Rumble match that featured 30 participants, as they changed the format so a new wrestler would enter every 60 seconds instead of two minutes.

This made the match fly by and it's a good thing too, because there wasn't a lot to see.

Let's just go to the video so you can see for yourself.

(Note: The Rumble match starts at 1:59:00 in the above video)
