The story of this Rumble match revolved around various feuds between wrestlers who had issues with each other at one time or another, such as Crush and Randy Savage, Doink the Clown and Bam Bam Bigelow, and Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty.
This match also marked the arrival on the WWF scene of Diesel, who had been doing work as Michaels' bodyguard but really got himself over by throwing out seven wrestlers and dominating the early part of the match. At one point, he was simply tossing them as they came while the announcers wondered who could stop him.
Ultimately, it took five guys to dump him.
The big story, of course, was the finish, the first time and last time it was used in this manner. Bret Hart and Lex Luger were the final two remaining and after a brief physical encounter, both ended up going over the top rope and touching their feet to the floor at roughly the same time.
It led to a long discussion and some controversy on who the rightful winner should be. First, they announced it was Luger. Then, they announced it was Hart. Eventually, they determined that because the two were both eliminated at the same time, neither was eliminated and they were both winners.
Thankfully, this was the last time this finish was used.
