Royal Rumble Rewind 2008: John Cena's time is now

In this series, we look back on every Royal Rumble event to date. Up next: Royal Rumble 2008, featuring John Cena making a shocking return to win it all in a history making performance.

Event: Royal Rumble 2008
Date: January 27, 2008
Location: Madison Square Garden in New York, New York
Time: 51:26
Winner: John Cena
Last Eliminated: Triple H
Iron Man: Batista
Quickest Out: Shelton Benjamin
Most Eliminations: Triple H

Eventually, John Cena's time would come in a Royal Rumble match. That time just so happened to be here, in the most shocking fashion imaginable.

For those who don't follow those pesky dirtsheets, at least!

Cena had been out of action for a few months with a torn pectoral muscle that was expected to keep him out for nearly a year. As it turned out, he healed quicker than anyone could have ever imagined and made a surprise return as the number 30 entrant in the Rumble match, much to the shock and dismay of Triple H, who had absolutely cleaned house.

Cena proceeded to spend just 8:28 in the match, the shortest amount of time a winner had ever spent in the Rumble.

The rest of the Rumble was fairly straight forward with a few other surprises in Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka reigniting their old feud while everyone watched on. It was also pretty cool to see Undertaker and Shawn Michaels start this match as one and two respectively when they were the final two in the Rumble match the year before. Both lasted just over 32 minutes before being eliminated.

Enjoy!

(Note: The Rumble match begins at the 19:00 mark of the above video.)
