AEW Dynamite results, live blog (Oct. 23, 2024): Jericho/Briscoe Ladder War

@AEW
Claire Elizabeth knows the names of all the moves and is a decent typist but has too much social anxiety to be someone's secretary so instead she's been liveblogging shows here at Cageside Seats since 2016.

Here’s a place to check results and comment along with a new episode of AEW Dynamite, airing live tonight (Oct. 23) at 8 p.m. Eastern on TBS.

AEW will be at Salt Lake City’s Maverik Center for a Dynamite that comes with its own warning label! Get ready with our preview for the show here!

That warning is because AEW World champ Jon Moxley will be on hand, and he & his Blackpool Combat Club (if that’s still their name) mates have been trying to kill people who don’t represent their vision for the company. It should also apply to the Ring of Honor World title match we’re getting tonight, because Mark Briscoe is defending against Chris Jericho in a Ladder War!

We’ll also see The Young Bucks & Jack Perry of The Elite in a trios bout with Daniel Garcia & Private Party, Shelton Benjamin taking on Sammy Guevara, a battle between Mercedes Moné’s muscle Kamille and Queen Animata, and House of Black in action. Plus, we’ll hear from Kyle Fletcher... and more!

Come right back here at 8pm ET when the Dynamite live blog kicks off once the show starts on TBS. It will be below this line here.

Enjoy the show!

AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR OCT. 23

I swear I’m okay, I just need to walk this off. If you listen, I’ll stay, bring the funk and I’ll bring the soul. I’ve convinced myself we belong upon the train but I talked the whole way home again and again, and now I’m here to liveblog this pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The show opens with a recap of the beginnings of Jon Moxley’s reign of terror.

A lot of the roster are shown waiting outside for Jon Moxley and company, weapons in hand.

Tony Schiavone is in the ring and introduces “Hangman” Adam Page.

Asked where his mind is at, Page yanks the mic out of Tony’s hand and says last week he took Jay White’s head off, and before that he nearly took Juice Robinson’s life, and a few weeks ago he knocked Austin Gunn out so bad he doubts he remembers his own brother’s name!

Speaking of Colten Gunn, he attacks Hangman from behind and lays him out on the floor! Page gets the better of him but before he can hang Gunn with his belt, “Switchblade” Jay White and “Rock Hard” Juice Robinson make the save! White beats him down and Hangman runs away!

White tells him he can’t hide his leg from him and he’ll always have his number and if it weren’t for Christian Cage saving him he’d have a perfect 5-0 over him. When that bell rings, Hangman never will be able to measure up to the Switchblade.

We get a Sammy Guevara promo where he talks up his pride in being an AEW Original and he needs to fight the best.

MVP and Shelton Benjamin cut a promo about how they’re not here to make friends, they’re all about business, merchants of misery, and they’re gonna take over, trust the process.

Sammy Guevara vs. Shelton Benjamin

Benjamin with a big cradle exploder suplex out the gates, trading chops in the corner, rolling thunder Ace Crusher blocked, Guevara with a gamengiri out of the apron, low bridge sends Shelton to the floor and an Asai moonsault wipes him out! Suicide dive but Benjamin catches him and throws him with a belly-to-belly suplex on the ramp to send us to break!

Back from commercial, Shelton pops him up and drops him, well in control on Guevara! Sammy gets him staggered in the apron, superkick sets him up, running knee sends Benjamin crashing to the floor! Fired up, off the ropes, Sasuke Special wipes him out! Back inside, off the ropes, pop-up countered with an Ace Crusher!

Sammy slow to capitalize and he barely gets one out of it! Shelton cuts him down, lines him up and a superkick takes Guevara’s head off! Drawing Sammy to his feet, setting him in the corner, rising knee connects, set him up...

Shelton Benjamin wins by pinfall with the exploder powerslam.

We go backstage where Mariah May throws Anna Jay’s luggage down a hallway, telling Renee Paquette that she doesn’t belong in a ring with her or in a locker room.

Kyle Fletcher makes his entrance, accompanied by Don Callis.

Callis says Fletcher has something important to say and passes him the microphone. Kyle begins, saying you can boo him all you want, but the only person he’s here to talk to is Will Ospreay. He says he hopes Will has been having a good time laid up in bed with that herniated disc he doesn’t want anyone to know about.

People have been asking “why, Kyle, why” and that makes him happy, because these idiots are as much to blame for things as Will is. When he got here he was the next big thing, the brightest future in wrestling, but then Ospreay showed up and suddenly he was just the next Will Ospreay.

He took every comparison as an insult, because he’s bigger, stronger, faster, and better in every way than Will Ospreay. He talks about leaving New Japan and how Kazuchika Okada brought Will in and he only stabbed him in the back. What happened between him and Kenny Omega? He turned on him and stabbed him with a screwdriver and dropped him on his neck, and it all adds up to Kyle knowing he needed to get out of Will’s shadow.

He claims Ospreay never wanted him to get out of his shadow, never wanted him to surpass him, because that’s the kind of guy Will is— selfish. And he’s gonna put Ospreay in the hospital for more than eleven days, hitting Tiger Driver after Tiger Driver until his neck is dust!

And from this day forward, he’s nothing like Will, and he takes electric clippers from Don Callis and shaves a streak down the middle of his head, growling into the camera that he’s nothing like Ospreay.

And so we go to break.

We get a recap of Konosuke Takeshita defending the AEW International Championship in Maple Leaf Wrestling.

Ricochet is interviewed backstage and challenges Takeshita to a match on Rampage, promising that payback is a bitch.

MVP and Shelton Benjamin roll up and Montel says he knows they have a history but it’s a new company, new beginning, and he gives him his card.

Don Callis Family (Brian Cage & Lance Archer) vs. ??? & ???

Our enhancement talent tonight look like the Batiri ate John Nord, and they put up a good fight but of course the ending is inevitable...

Cage & Archer win by pinfall with a chokeslam / powerbomb combination.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, Chuck Taylor rolls up as a crew member to the crowd waiting outside and pulls Orange Cassidy aside.

He talks about how they used to have to live together before AEW came along, and he doesn’t know if anybody else can handle Moxley, but he knows Orange can, if only he steps up.

Chris Jericho vs. Mark Briscoe (c) (ROH World Championship Ladder War)

Briscoe taking it to him, smashing his face corner to corner into the turnbuckles! Off the ropes, a shoulder block sends Jericho off the apron and through a table! Fighting on the floor, Mark wants a tope con giro but Chris rolls out of the way and Briscoe wipes out hard into the steel!

Y2J stands tall in the ring and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Jericho climbs a ladder in the middle of the ring, Briscoe is busted open and wearing the crimson mask, he cuts him off, fireman’s carry... BLU-RAY THROUGH A LADDER LEANED IN THE CORNER! Mark grabs another ladder and slides it inside, senton atomico connects, sliding a table inside as Chris climbs!

Briscoe climbs the other side of the ladder, trading shots, Mark falls but he pops up and knocks the ladder over! Working Jericho over, setting the table up, climbing a big ladder, Bryan Keith comes in and runs interference but Rocky Romero appears to play equalizer and run the Bad Apple off!

Mark off the ladder... FROGGY BOW PUTS JERICHO THROUGH THE TABLE! JAY DRILLER! Briscoe climbs but Big Bill arrives and plucks him off the ladder and chokeslams him over the ropes and through some tables! Fireman’s carry, he drags Chris up the ladder...

Chris Jericho wins, retrieving the title and becoming your new ROH World Champion.

Post-match, Tomohiro Ishii makes his entrance and stares at Jericho.

We get a hype reel for Kamille vs. Kris Statlander for next week’s show.

Adam Cole makes his entrance and gets on the mic, but before he can say much of anything—

Enter Undisputed Kingdom.

Roderick Strong talks about how Maxwell Jacob Friedman used Cole to get the fans to actually care about him. He talks a bunch about how Adam’s recovery went and says he wants Max first. Cole says he’s damn right and they need to finish what they started, and why not tonight?

He calls MJF down and promises him a four-on-one Undisputed Asskicking.

Of course, Friedman appears on the tron getting a massage and reminds him that he said Cole will never be allowed to get his hands on him. But he offers a carrot— whichever one of Adam or Roddy wins three matches in a row can have a match against him at Full Gear, and he won’t be at the show in person until the PPV.

Finally, mercifully, we go to break.

Back from commercial, we get a hype reel for Jamie Hayter vs. Penelope Ford.

Renee Paquette interviewes Jamie Hayter backstage.

She says she’s here looking for a fight but surprise surprise, Ford is nowhere to be found, so if she wants to be a victim, Jamie will make her a victim, two weeks from tonight on Dynamite.

House of Black (Brody King, Buddy Matthews, & Malakai Black) vs. ???, ???, & ???

My apologies, these guys got names but they appeared and disappeared on screen so fast I couldn’t get them, and in the end, of course...

House of Black win by pinfall with Blackout from Buddy Murphy.

Post-match, Matthews gets on the mic.

He says that now that Adam Cole is cleared he wants to fight him next week.

Adam is interviewed about the challenge and walks over to chat with Buddy about it, asking if he’s got some kind of problem with him, but Matthews isn’t talking at first. Eventually he smiles and says he has to prove one point— that Adam Cole is fragile.

Kamille vs. Queen Aminata

Whip to the corner, short-arm lariat, Aminata out at one! Queen with elbows in the corner, Kamille ducks out, up and over, off the ropes, tijeras connects! Sidestep the dropkick, roll away from the elbow, Aminata lands a kick for one! Backbreaker cuts her off and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Aminata hammering her with elbows, fired up, fisherman neckbreaker connects! Bodyscissors in the middle of the ring, Queen adjusts it into a Lotus Lock, then to a Dragon sleeper but Kamille rolls through and clobbers her with an elbow! Aminata straightens up and fires an elbow of her own in return!

Duck under, Alabama Slam denied, Kamille hosses her up, Queen reverses to a Hurricanrana... SO CLOSE! Backbreaker rack, shaking her, spinning her out... AMINATA KICKS OUT OF THE ARGENTINE POWERBOMB! Following it up...

Kamille wins by pinfall with a DDT.

Post-match, Kris Statlander shows up and squares up with Kamille! Mercedes Mone lands a cheap shot but Stat doesn’t flinch! Kris holds her own but Mone trips her up and Kamille hits the DDT!

Kip Sabian gets the Patriarchy’s attention in the parking lot and they chase him off.

The chase arrives in the arena proper and Christian Cage and Nick Wayne corner Sabian in the ring!

We see HOOK on the tron, striding with purpose and running into Renee Paquette. He says the scumbags in the ring attacked his dad and he’s gonna whoop their ass.

HOOK makes his entrance and rushes the ring and takes Nick Wayne out with a Tazplex! Cornering Cage but Kip saves Christian with a low blow! Cage tells him he knows why he’s been doing what he’s doing and he’ll deal with him later but right now he tells Sabian to get in the corner and mind his business.

Nick lays HOOK out with Wayne’s World and he and Christian embrace after!

The Patriarchy leaves and Cage waves Kip over before deciding to Killswitch HOOK on his contract himself! He tells Tyler to listen to him, this isn’t what he thinks, and he holds the dented contract high.

And so we go to break.

Daniel Garcia & Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen) vs. the Elite (“SCAPEGOAT” Jack Perry, Matthew Jackson, & Nicholas Jackson)

Brawling before the bell, the AEW faithful running hot but the Elite cut corners and turn the tide by the time we take our first commercial break of the match.

Back from commercial, Stokely Hathaway scouting Private Party again, Kassidy desperate for a tag but Matthew pulls Garcia off the apron! Heat segment rolls on, at long last Quen gets the tag and runs hot on the Bucks and SCAPEGOAT! Double Frankensteiner but the Bucks pop right back up into a Superkick Party!

Poison Frankensteiner connects and Isiah’s back in the hotseat! Garcia returns and takes Perry out on the floor, throwing him into the barricade and blasting him over it with a big boot! Kassidy fighting hard against the Bucks, TK Driver blocked, Silly String denied but Isiah manages to counter the counter...

Daniel Garcia and Private Party win by pinfall with a small package from Isiah Kassidy on Matthew Jackson.

Post-match, Private Party call the Bucks out and say they’ve proved they got their number and can beat them, so they want a rematch! The Bucks walk but Isiah ups the ante— if Private Party lose, they split up, for good. That gets a yes from the Bucks and the match is on for next week!

Quen is none too pleased about it.

Finally a truck rolls up outside and Marina Shafir gets out of the truck by herself... CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI AND WHEELER YUTA ARE IN THE RING TO BEAT PRIVATE PARTY AND DANIEL GARCIA OUT! JON MOXLEY DRAGS CHUCK TAYLOR DOWN THE RAMP AND PUTS A CHAIR AROUND HIS LEG BUT CLAUDIO MOVES THE CHAIR TO HIS NECK AND STOMPS IT!

Orange Cassidy checks on his pal with the medics, a rage building up inside him.

That’s the show, folks.
