AEW and Warner Bros Discovery promised an amazing piece of corporate synergy on the Dec. 6 Dynamite, enlisting Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz to introduce Women’s World champion Timeless Toni Storm for her defense against Skye Blue.
It definitely lived up to the hype. Mankiewicz was a great sport, delivering up an intro worthy of a film great like Storm. My only note is that he should have said the “tits out” part of the Timeless One’s mantra, but I imagine that was where he drew the line.
After that, Storm and Blue delivered in the ring. Toni, along with her butler Lutha and biggest fan Mariah May, incorporated her gimmick into the match much better than in previous outings — including her title winning bout with Hikaru Shida at Full Gear.
Skye continues to improve in the ring with each outing, and rose to the occasion of another huge television match.
She didn’t win though of course, which raised the question of who Storm’s next challenger would be. We didn’t have to wait long, as the first AEW Women’s champion returned and immediately got into it with Toni.
If I could offer another note to the screenwriters at AEW, it’s that I don’t know how much longer they can fight the cheers and keep Storm a heel. But with a fan favorite like Riho as the next wrestler up, they’ll be able to do it for at least a few more weeks.
