Masked goons are a big draw for AEW

AEW Dynamite

The ratings and viewership data are in for this week’s (Dec. 27) New Year’s Smash episode of AEW Dynamite that was headlined by two masked goons winning the ROH world tag team titles.

Per Wrestlenomics, Dynamite netted 843,000 viewers and a 0.31 rating with the 18-49 year old demographic. These numbers are up from last week’s 782,000 and 0.26, respectively.

The 0.31 rating in the key demo is tied for Dynamite’s best result in that metric over the last three months, so the AEW ratings see-saw continued to swing back-and-forth between 0.25 and 0.31 throughout the month of December.

That’s the kind of number Tony Khan wants to see with the Worlds End PPV coming up on Saturday (Dec. 30) night, and as the Continental Classic tournament approaches its end. A big reveal in the storyline between MJF and The Devil at Worlds End could potentially help AEW Dynamite beat gravity again next week, so we’ll have to wait and see how AEW handles that mystery this weekend.

Here’s a breakdown of AEW viewership and rating in the 18-49 demo over the last year:
