After missing more than one year of ring time due to a brutal knee injury, Mike Santana returned to action in AEW roughly four months ago at All In London.
Santana then entered a feud with former tag team partner Ortiz, which culminated in a No Disqualification match on the October 27 episode of Rampage. Even though Santana won the fight, he has yet to compete in an AEW ring since that event. Overall, he has wrestled in only three matches for AEW since returning in late August.
Past rumors have repeatedly indicated that Santana wants better booking in AEW. With all of that in mind, some fans assumed Mike was finished with AEW when he posted this message on social media last night:
Spent the last 4 months back in wrestling, warming myself up against some of the best in the game.— Mike SANTANA (@Santana_Proud) December 21, 2023
Now it’s time to officially start this journey and make this the best year of my career.
The work begins.
Santana later clarified that he’s still with AEW, but he isn’t waiting around for the promotion to use him:
I still am.— Mike SANTANA (@Santana_Proud) December 21, 2023
I just don’t do well with sitting around waiting for opportunities.
I go get mine. https://t.co/xgkuoibm9X
