Samoa Joe saves MJF from the Devil, but can’t save him from himself

AEW World champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman was out on the Nov. 29 Dynamite, still using a cane to walk with his injured hip. It’s reportedly one of several injuries MJF is trying to work through. They don’t hinder his gift of gab, however.

And the champ proved that by delivering a fiery promo that put over Samoa Joe (and by extension, wrestling companies like TNA and AEW that provide an alternative for fans and options for wrestlers who might not otherwise get a chance in WWE).

When he was done, the lights went out in Minneapolis’ Target Center. When they came back up, Max was being held up by three masked men while a fourth was primed to hit him with a bat. That brought out Joe, who vowed last week to not let anything happen to the champ before their match at Worlds End on Dec. 30. He made the save, but then the lights went out again and The Devil sent MJF a proposition:

“In the shadows, our game begins. Next week MJF & Samoa Joe…will you face the unknown in a tag match? Are you a hero, Max?”

Joe clearly didn’t want MJF to take the bait, but our Scumbag wasn’t backing down. He’s “sick of the Scooby Doo bullshit”, and he wants to try and co-exist with the Samoan Submission Machine to put a stop to it.

After a commercial, commentary informed us that Tony Khan has booked that match for next Wednesday. They also said AEW’s IT Department is working to discover who is hacking into their systems, something Tony Schiavone described as an “internal matter”.

The plot continues to thicken...
