AEW reveals full field, group assignments for Continental Classic tournament

Hot off the presses, AEW revealed the full field for the Continental Classic tournament. The news was delivered by Tony Khan and Tony Schiavone during the Selection Special.

The Continental Classic tournament format is round robin with two leagues. The winners of each league advance to the finale. In addition to the Continental Classic Championship, Eddie Kingston decided to up the stakes to include the ROH World Championship and the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship. That means the tournament winner becomes a triple crown champion.

On to the moment you’ve all been waiting for. Here is the official list of participants.

Blue League
Bryan Danielson
Andrade El Idolo
Brody King
Claudio Castagnoli
Daniel Garcia
Eddie Kingston

Gold League
Jon Moxley
Swerve Strickland
Rush
Mark Briscoe
Jay Lethal
Jay White

Rules for the Continental Classic tournament include:

  • 20-minute time limit
  • 3 points for a win
  • 1 point for a draw
  • Everyone is banned from ringside

The contest starts Wednesday night (Nov. 22, 2023) on Dynamite and spans six weeks across AEW programming. The finale will take place at the Worlds Ends PPV (Dec. 30, 2023).

The first five matches were announced on the Selection Special as well. Tonight we’ll see Gold League action:

  • Rush vs. Jay White
  • Swerve Strickland vs. Jay Lethal
  • Jon Moxley vs. Mark Briscoe

And Saturday on Collision, the Blue League gets going with:

  • Daniel Garcia vs. Claudio Castagnoli
  • Eddie Kingston vs. Brody King
