AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR JAN. 18

So hungry, so cold, but there can be no surrender for creed and pride, take hold. Blood is the cry, we’ll do or die, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The show opens with a memorial graphic for the late great Jay Briscoe.

Thence to the intro video.

Jay Lethal vs. Orange Cassidy (c) (AEW All-Atlantic Championship)

Jeff Jarrett, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh make a big deal out of coming to ringside seats as the match begins.

Lethal going right for it, figure four leglock reversed into a small package... NOPE! Off the ropes, leapfrog, hip toss blocked, backslide gets Orange a two-count! Whip to the corner, Flair Flip, Jay blasts him to the floor with a forearm! His buddies bicker about intervening, Danhausen rolls up to play usher and checks their tickets!

Best Friends also arrive and take ringside seats, Cassidy with a dive, back inside, off the ropes, tilt-a-whirl, Jay counters with a Stun Gun! Mounted punches, choking Orange in the corner, action to the floor, ramming him into the apron, into the ringpost shoulder first and Lethal with the Fargo Strut!

Orange back in, Jay with a snap suplex, knee to the midsection, scoop and a slam! Lethal goes up top, Cassidy rolls away so he goes to the next corner, same story different corner, Jay runs around him and gets ahead of him, dive, boot up, catch it, Orange throws him into the turnbuckles!

Back body drop to the apron, Cassidy smashes his face into the top turnbuckle over and over! Diving lariat, Stundog Millionaire, off the ropes, satellite DDT for two! Up top, Orange dives and Jay catches him in the Lethal Combination but Cassidy is a step ahead of the Lethal Injection and sidesteps!

Elbow pad down, Orange Punch blocked, Lethal Injection connects this time but Orange rolls out of the ring! Referee Bryce Remsburg goes to ringside and yells at Sonjay Dutt, Jay tries to get a cheap guitar shot while he’s distracted but Danhausen steals the guitar and plays a few barshausen!

Back inside, cross-leg victory roll pin... SO CLOSE! Following it up...

Orange Cassidy wins by pinfall with the Orange Punch, retaining the AEW All-Atlantic Championship.

Post-match, the heels get in the ring, Jeff Jarrett wants the El Kabong but Sonjay Dutt stops him to try and save his job! Orange with the lazy kicks, Dutt wants to fight but Lethal and Jarrett hold him back!

We get a video package for KUSHIDA vs. Darby Allin for the TNT Championship.

Top Flight (Dante & Darius Martin) vs. Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)

Dante and Nick to start, arm wringer, big kick and a tag to Matt! Cross chop, Darius tags in, whip across, trip and a bulldog, striking in the corner, quick tags from the Martin boys! Nick comes in, saves his brother from a double suplex, Darius gets caught out, Dante tripped up in the corner!

Darius with a back body drop that puts Nick on the apron, but he gets catapulted into a gamengiri, double stomps from Jackson into a lungblower on Dante! Bucks in control and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Dante is in a bad place, Bucks with a bulldog / dropkick combination, Nick up top, diving splash / standing moonsault combination... NOPE! Double whip, double hip toss countered into a double arm drag, pop-up headscissors takeover and a tag to Darius!

Manhattan Drop, big right hands, in hot, dropping Matt with a forearm! Boot up, off the second, roll through off the ropes, go-behind, Spanish Fly and a dive on Nick! Top Flight win by pinfall with a victory roll from Darius Martin on Matt Jackson.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, the Ass Boys make their entrance and get on the mic.

They complain about the Acclaimed embarrassing them last week and claim that they made the Acclaimed and that will be the last time they’re ever embarrassed.

Enter the Acclaimed, much to the Gunns’ consternation.

Billy Gunn tries to get his sons in line, they run off and he gets on the mic. He says he’s sick and tired of them whining, and he tells his adopted sons that they’re the tag team champions and they need to start acting like it, and they’re gonna sit down and hash it out next week.

He has two words for them: family therapy.

Renee Paquette interviews “Hangman” Adam Page.

He says physically he feels fine but Jon Moxley took something from him in their first match and he feels like this win at least gives him his word back. She says Jon told her that Page pushes him to be a better version of himself and he loves and despises him for it.

Hangman says if Moxley has anything to say to him, he can say it to his face. He says he’s got fences that need mending but he doesn’t want to be overly specific about it.

Jake Hager vs. “Absolute” Ricky Starks

Chris Jericho is on commentary for this one.

Collar and elbow, Hager drives him into the corner, body blows, Starks steals the hat and grabs a knucklelock, walking the ropes, Jake pulls him down into a slam but Ricky floats out and throws him to the floor! Off the ropes, slide under, Hager blocks and throws him hard into the post before booting him down and sending us to break.

Back from commercial, Hager gets Starks up for a powerbomb, he slips out, dropkick sends Jake spiraling to the floor and then Ricky throws Angelo Parker over a table! Lariat for Matt Menard, back inside, back and forth, Starks is fired up but he has to fight 2.0 off first! Duck Jake, malfunction at the junction...

Ricky Starks wins by pinfall with the spear.

Post-match, Starks leaves through the crowd to avoid That Damned Numbers Game.

We get a video package about Adam Cole’s comeback last week and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Chris Jericho is interviewed backstage.

He says he’s asked for match against Starks and Action Andretti next week, with Sammy Guevara as his partner. Daniel Garcia speaks up and says he wants to be his partner and Sammy tells him he can have the spot if he beats Andretti on Rampage, and he got him new pleather pants for gear.

Bandido vs. “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson

Handshake, collar and elbow, Danielson with an arm wringer, Bandido rolls through and reverses, taunting! Bryan kicks his hand, headlock takeover, deathlock, Bandido reverses, Romero Special to full extension! Dragon slips out, grabbing a toehold briefly and into a Romero Special of his own!

Bandido with a wacky llavel double wristlock inverted surfboard thing, Bryan posts up and out, cloverleaf denied! Hip toss, cross the legs, clutch both wrists, lift Dragon up and he slips out and to the floor! Bandido dives on him and we go to break.

Off the ropes, Dragon counters the 21plex, drop toehold, La Casita for two! Drop toehold again, reverse, Bandido with La Casita... SO CLOSE! Strike rush in the corner, Danielson back body drops him to the floor, dropkick through the ropes, diving knee connects!

Back inside, Bandido meets him in the turnbuckles with a palm strike, climbs up with him, trading punches, jockeying for position, moonsault fallaway slam from Bandido! 21plex connects... DANIELSON KICKS OUT! Trading strikes, trading kicks, suplex blocked with ak nee, omoplata, Bandido deadlifts him, Dragon rolls through, backslide roll through, off the ropes...

Bryan Danielson wins by pinfall with the Busaiku Knee.

Post-match, Maxwell Jacob Friedman appears on the tron to cut a promo.

He says he hears everything Danielson and the fans say about him not deserving his spot in the company but people seem to have forgotten who he is and how he became world champion, and he takes that personally. Fickle is an understatement, and Bryan doesn’t understand that he’s only been dealing with masked Max.

Masked Max likes to keep things like and have fun, but the closer we get to Revolution, the more the mask will slip, and nobody wants that. He may think he’s a dragon, but a dragon is no match for the monster behind the mask.

We get a promo video package from Toni Storm, Saraya, and Hikaru Shida, wherein Toni talks about how she’s winning tonight and Saraya warns Shida to stay in the back.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, we’re informed that Bryan Danielson’s opponent next week is Brian Cage.

Prince Nana and Cage are interviewed about it when MJF rolls up to chat. He pulls a big envelope of money out and says it’s theirs, win or lose, if they break Danielson’s arm. Brian says he can probably work that out, Friedman slaps him, Cage grabs him by the neck and Nana talks him down.

Max says that feeling is hate and there’s no greater motivator, so he should use it next week.

Toni Storm vs. Willow Nightingale

Handshake, Storm with a side headlock, block the shoot, grinding Nightingale down, she gets out, big shoulder block, off the ropes, drop down trips her up, Willow rolls through into a crucfix pin for two! Back suplex from Nightingale, off the ropes, low crossbody... NOPE!

Toni slaps her, putting boots to her, hip attack sends Willow to the floor! Hikaru Shida comes to ringside and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Nightingale with a back elbow, whip across, backsplash, big lariat, snapmare, a kick knocks Storm down! Whip across, big spinebuster, cover... ONLY TWO! Hip attack in the corner sets up a DDT and Toni cuts off the rally with a nearfall! Willow gets her, cannonball, still just two!

Saray up on the apron and jawing, Toni takes advantage...

Toni Storm wins by pinfall with a schoolboy pin.

Post-match, Saraya blindsides Willow and she and Toni put boots to her! Shida gets up on the apron in shock as Ruby Soho makes the save!

Commentary hypes up the next week of shows.

Stokely Hathaway and Ethan Page cut a promo on Jungle Boy and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Konosuke Takeshita is interviewed.

He says he loved wrestling Bryan Danielson because he’s his hero and he learned so much, and he talks about how he doesn’t trust MJF and says a bunch of things in Japanese that he says add up to “MJF is an asshole.”

Darby Allin (c) vs. KUSHIDA (AEW TNT Championship)

Circling, waistlock, standing switches, stalemate! KUSHIDA going for a drop toehold, Allin keeping his distance but he gets caught and ends up in a hammerlock. Off the ropes, shoulder block, drop down, leg trip, cover for one, Darby riding him, Fujiwara armbar attempt reversed, cross armbar attempt, Allin in the ropes for the break!

Leg pick into a toehold, to the floor, Darby throws him into the barricade! KUSHIDA trips him up, back in, kick to the arm! Working the arm, kneeling hammerlock and into a standing twist! Backsplash, Coffin Drop countered, KUSHIDA with a rolling elbow, Pele kick blocked, Yoshi Tonic... KUSHIDA KICKS OUT!

Darby cannonballs to the floor, taking out KUSHIDA’s seconds from the LA Dojo, Divorce Court on the floor puts the Time Splitter in control and we go to break!

Back from commercial, going forearm-for-chop in the middle of the ring! Chest kick gets Darby to fire up, whip across, big crossbody, Pele kick, whip reversed, KUSHIDA with a handspring, Allin reverses to a Scorpion Death Drop! To the floor, diving knee to the injured arm and Darby is having a bad time!

Up on the apron, trading strikes, Allin with the standing Diamond Dust! Both men down and out on the floor, Darby grabs a chair and opens it on the floor, sitting KUSHIDA in it! Trading forearms, Allin lights him up, up top... KUSHIDA CATCHES HIM OUT OF HIS DIVE AND RIGHT INTO A CROSS ARMBAR!

Wrenching back on it, breaking the hold to break the count, pulling Darby up the apron and into a top wristlock! TOP WRISTLOCK SUPLEX OFF THE TOP! Hoverboard Lock applied, Allin with his wrists clutched to keep him out of full extension! The LA Dojo kids give Sting a towel to throw in but he throws it into the crowd!

Darby reaching for the ropes, counter spinebuster, Last Supper... IT’S OVER!

Darby Allin wins by pinfall with Last Supper, retaining the AEW TNT Championship.

Post-match, KUSHIDA and Darby embrace.

That’s the show, folks.
