AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR MAR. 9
Live another day, climb a little higher. Find another reason to stay. Ashes in your hands, mercy in your eyes, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.
The show opens with Chris Jericho making his entrance.
He says Revolution was one of the greatest nights of his career, and even though his neck is sore and he lost by tapping to the Stretch Plum, it’s one of the best matches in his career and maybe the best he’s had in AEW. He thanks Eddie Kingston for that, for awakening something in him that he wasn’t sure was still there.
But when it came down to it, after he won the big one and beat Chris Jericho, he didn’t live up to his word. He refused to shake Eddie’s hand and he wants to make it up to him and pay his debt to Eddie Kingston. He calls Eddie out—
Eddie Kingston makes his entrance.
He says we’re gonna get real deep, and the Friday night before Revolution and the biggest match of his career, he didn’t want to show up. He wanted to go out and drink and forget about his problems, he wanted the poison that’s eaten him for years to do it again. Chris got in his mind about whether he could win the big one.
He’s lost to Mox, to Dragon, to Punk, but when four separate people came up to him and told him they didn’t end themselves because of his Player’s Tribune article, he knew there was no way he wasn’t gonna make it. And after the match he went to his hotel room and cried because he wanted to make those people proud.
All Eddie can say now is, if you were at the fanfest, he hopes he did you proud. And now to the other issue, that handshake wasn’t for him, he didn’t need that, winning the match was what he needed, the handshake was for Jericho. What’s missing inside of you that you couldn’t shake his hand?
He dragged out the man he looked up to, in the J-Cup, against Eddy Guerrero, against Dean Malenko, that’s the guy he respected, the Lionheart. And no matter what anyone says, Jericho proved everyone else wrong and he’s still the man, but is that enough to fill that hole in your chest that keeps you from having respect for young guys like Kingston?
Y2J admits that everything he’s saying is right and he couldn’t sleep the last few nights, and he tells Eddie exactly what he said he would— he has his undying respect, he gave him one of the best matches of his career, and please, shake his hand. Kingston accepts and gives him a little bow!
Enter 2.0 and Daniel Garcia!
They hit the ring and attack Jericho and Kingston, overwhelming them! ORTIZ AND SANTANA MAKE THE SAVE! Santana holds Garcia in place... AND JERICHO ATTACKS ORTIZ AND SANTANA WITH THE BAT!
Jake Hager runs down and takes a moment... BEFORE SIDING WITH Y2J AND 2.0! Jericho wailing on Kingston with a bat, 2.0 drop Ortiz with a DDT and Garcia puts the Sharpshooter on Santana! 2.0 run out and get the timekeeper’s table... THEY POWERBOMB EDDIE KINGSTON OFF THE APRON AND THROUGH THE TABLE!
Chris gets on the mic and introduces his new group as the Jericho Appreciation Society and says this is entertainment. They all flip the bird at the camera.
We get a video package for CM Punk vs. Maxwell Jacob Friedman.
“Hangman” Adam Page (c) vs. Dante Martin (AEW World Championship)
Circling, collar and elbow, Page with a wristlock, Martin backflips out of it! Hangman with a go-behind, off the ropes, drop down, headlock, shot off, shoulder block! Dante cracking off chops, whip reversed, duck under, springboard crossbody but Page rolls through and lifts him up for a fallaway slam!
Kipping up, triangle lariat and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Martin gets a nearfall off a missile dropkick. Page kicks him away, to the apron, Dante slides under, nobody hom on the moonsault, Frankensteiner puts Hangman into the apron, comes off for a rebound, blocks a springboard, he’s got him in his sights...
“Hangman” Adam Page wins by pinfall with Buckshot, retaining the AEW World Championship.
Post-match, Tony Schiavone interviews Hangman Page.
Page calls Dante Martin back and says he was in a hard place with his brother out hurt and he managed to make it all the way to the world championship. He knows that he and his brother are gonna go after the tag titles, but he gave a hell of a fight and he’d be happy to face him again.
Enter Adam Cole.
He says on Sunday he proved that Page isn’t untouchable, and he took him to his absolute limit. Congratulations, you got a fluke victory against Adam Cole, and anybody can get lucky once, but next time, he won’t get lucky again. And next week, he’s challenging Page to a trios match, any two goons he wants against Cole and two very specific young men.
Two guys who know Hangman better than he knows himself, two men who are his friends and not Hangman’s. His days as champion are numbered, and Cole will not stop until he gets the title.
And so we go to break.
“American Dragon” Bryan Danielson & Jon Moxley vs. WorkHorsemen (Anthony Henry & JD Drake)
Moxley and Drake to start, Jon working him over with forearms, off the ropes, shoulder block, duck a backfist and he snaps off a back suplex! Tag to Danielson, chest kicks, buzzsaw roundhouse takes Drake’s head off but he manages to back Henry into the corner!
Henry laying kicks in, palm strike, whip reversed, big knee lift takes Anthony off his feet! Penalty Kick, tag to Mox and he lights Henry up in the turnbuckles! Chops and kicks in the corner, snapmare, Bryan puts the Romero Special on! Moxley tags in, Crash Landing for two!
Elbow up, boot up, Henry with a missile dropkick! Tag to Drake, Mox with a lariat, clear the apron, tag to Bryan, dive takes Anthony out! Danielson out of the corner, wrists clutched, stomping Drake’s head in, the LeBell Lock is on...
“American Dragon” Bryan Danielson & Jon Moxley win by submission with the LeBell Lock from Danielson on Drake.
Post-match, William Regal is interviewed in the ring.
He says he thought he’d never do this with Mr. Schiavone again, and it’s been 29 years. His time is flying by, he’s 53 and he’s lived more than a hard life, through battles in the ring and with himself, and it won’t be too long before he gets pushed to the sunny window every day.
He’s not long for this world, too many empty bottles and a few broken vials, sweetheart, and what he’s here to do with these incredible gentlemen... this is the first time he gets to thank Tony on camera for helping him when he first came here... Time’s ticking by and he’s no longer required in his old job.
For two months he sat at home, checked out of this industry, then somebody told him that his friend Bryan Danielson had mentioned him on AEW Dynamite, and that piqued his interest, and he had to watch and see that Danielson was going to fight Jon Moxley, and a lot of us, the only reason we know him is because of Bryan.
Every time his name was mentioned, in Ring of Honor or anywhere else, Regal’s name got mentioned, and as much of a rogue he is, what he will do, is if somebody wants to work hard, he’ll make them a better professional wrestler. The first thing he’ll do is sit you down and tell you everything what not to do and save ten years of your career.
Danielson is the wrestler he should have been, the perfect wrestler, and there was a time they’d train with a group and they’d leave and then it’d be the two of them from three or four in the afternoon to past midnight, and that’s when they really learned, and Bryan became everything he could never be, because he didn’t have his problem.
That brings him to Mox. Eleven years ago they met, and for a whole year, the psychological and physical problems they put on each other would make the devil cry, and when he say they were fighting, he knew it was time for them to come along, and he thought “what better could this younger generation have than the perfect combination?”
The perfect wrestler and the perfect sadistic person that will take things to another level, and that’s why this team is together. A warning, to everyone that steps in the ring with them— you won’t like the outcome, and either you’ll step up or get stepped on.
Dark Order are interviewed backstage.
Hangman Page rolls up to address his status with them and he admits his temper got the best of him and he wants to apologize to Alex Reynolds. Evil Uno says everything’s okay and John Silver asks who he’s gonna team with next week. Page has to admit that he already ran into Jurassic Express and they wanted to team with him and he went with it.
Adam says he has to get changed and he’ll catch up with them later.
PAC vs. Wheeler YUTA
Collar and elbow, PAC with a wristlock, and we go to break.
Back from commercial, YUTA throwing forearms, big German suplex connects! Big crossbody connects, PAC gets a bridging German suplex for a tight nearfall! Up top, avalanche brainbuster connects and Wheeler is out on the mat! Brutalizer applied...
PAC wins by submission with the Brutalizer.
Adam Cole is backstage with reDRagon and the Young Bucks.
He admits they all had a rough night at Revolution and his boyfriends all bicker until he asks them to stop. He says everything changes next week, because he’s got two guys that are perfect partners who live in his head rent-free, and Matt cuts him off and says they won’t wrestle Hangman.
Cole says he wasn’t going to pick them anyway, he was gonna pick Bobby and Kyle.
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, FTR are interviewed.
Dax Harwood says pro wrestling is his first love and he has to stand up for what he believes in. He calls reDRagon and the Bucks out and Tully Blanchard steps forward and says when they called him in it was supposed to be about titles. Dax puts hands on him and says this is about family, and Cash Wheeler says Tully isn’t family, and he’s fired.
AHFO are in the ring for a meeting.
Matt Hardy complains to Andrade el Idolo about trying to fire him and Andrade asks what happened to his suit. Hardy says he apologized to all of them for treating them poorly, and whenever he puts on a suit he turns into an asshole. Matt says he just wants to make things right, and Andrade says they should put it up for a vote.
Hardy agrees and they hold the vote. Andrade wants him fired, Hardy wants to stay, Jose wants him fired, Private Party want him to stay, and Matt says his boys would vote him out. But Private Party turn their thumbs to fired, and Andrade says in this business you always need to watch your back.
It slowly dawns on Matt and he turns around and Andrade, Butcher, and Blade attack him! Private Party join in, Andrade gets a chair and Darby Allin and Sting come down to make the save! They join the fray but quickly get overwhelmed themselves...
JEFF HARDY IS HERE AND READY TO CLEAN HOUSE! SWANTON BOMB!
The Hardy Boyz have a moment with Sting and Darby.
Shane Strickland is interviewed backstage.
He says he’s hyped for his debut and Tony Nese rolls up to greet him. Tony takes issue with Schiavone not being as excited for his debut and says he thinks it’d be perfect if the Premiere Athlete welcomed him to AEW, given their history on Friday nights.
Strickland says he’s gonna beat his ass, because this isn’t Nese’s house, it’s Swerve’s house.
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, Tony Schiavone welcomes Wardlow for an interview.
Wardlow says we all come to a point where we need to decide whether we’re gonna keep fulfilling somebody else’s dreams or go after our own. He thought his opportunity with Maxwell Jacob Friedman was his chance to finally free the wild animal from the circus, but he was just walking into another cage.
He knew Max wasn’t a good person when he signed up for the job, and we’ll all have to forgive him for associating with such trash, but to be honest, he grew up very poor and had to watch his mom struggle to raise himself and his two older sisters, so at a young age he knew he wanted to be a pro wrestler because it’d give him the opportunity to provide himself and his family wtih a better life.
Max was his way of getting his foot in the door, and yes he paid him a lot of money and changed his life, and he has to thank him for that, but it doesn’t matter how much you pay someone, it doesn’t give you the right to disrespect them, to threaten them and their family, or to put hands on them.
When MJF slapped him last week, he decided his own fate, and yes he’s still under contract with Max, but he doesn’t give a damn anymore. So at Revolution he wanted everyone to know he’s not watching his back, he’s not his bodyguard, and he’s not in the Pinnacle, he’s finally free.
He’s not gonna waste any more energy on Max, as much as he’d like to powerbomb him to hell, he’s gonna let karma do that, and the only thing he cares about is winning the TNT Championship and getting an AEW contract, and he’s not stopping there, he wants it all.
All Elite Wrestling is officially Wardlow’s World.
QT Marshall is backstage with Keith Lee, trying to sell him working together against Team Taz, and the Factory has his back. Keith says his back is very large, but he’s good, and QT sputters and promises him he’ll pay for this.
Jurassic Express (“Jungle Boy” Jack Perry & Luchasaurus) (c) vs. the Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster) (AEW World Tag Team Championship)
Perry and Bowens to start, Jack finds himself isolated and beat down on the floor as we go to break.
Back from commercial, Luchasaurus with the hot tag, cleaning house with a double lariat and posing in the turnbuckles! To the floor, duck the boombox shot, Perry dives and takes out the Acclaimed with a tope con giro! Dino man back inside, headscissors driver to Bowens, chokeslam and a standing moonsault on Caster... NOPE!
Tag to Jungle Boy, he gets cut off, Mic Drop, Luchasaurus breaks it up! Double-team nearfall, Bowens distracting referee Aubrey Edwards, Max has a chain, Christian Cage evens the odds, Jungle Boy with a small package for two! Into the corner, tag to Luchasaurus, Doomsday Device connects...
Jurassic Express win by pinfall with a Doomsday Device on Anthony Bowens to retain the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
We get a video package from Jade Cargill and “Smart” Mark Sterling asking who’s next.
Leyla Hirsch vs. Thunder Rosa (AEW Women’s World Championship #1 Contender’s Match)
Little bit of mat grappling early, off the ropes, drop down, leapfrog, arm drags, Hirsch ends up in control and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Rosa with lariats, drop toehold into the turnbuckles, dropkick to her back, off the ropes, hesitation dropkick connects! Bridging northern lights suplex, only two! Leyla raining clubbing blows down, she goes up top, Thunder cuts her off and climbs to join her... SUPERPLEX!
Rolling her through, Rosa hits the spin-out facebreaker on the knee, sliding knee, only two! Hirsch goes under the ring for a turnbuckle but Red Velvet cuts her off and throws her inside, Thunder scoops her up, Hirsch reverses, pumphandle into a cross armbar but Rosa has her hands clasped and gets the ropes for the break!
Thunder gets her up...
Thunder Rosa wins by pinfall with a Fire Thunder Driver to become #1 contender to the AEW Women’s World Championship.
Post-match, Tony Schiavone interviews Thunder Rosa.
He informs Thunder Rosa that her match next week will be held inside of a steel cage!
Dr. Britt Baker, DMD and Team DMD cut a promo from backstage.
Britt points out that she beat Thunder at Revolution and complains about her earning another title shot. She asks where Mercedes Martinez is and says it doesn’t matter because Jamie Hayter is gonna finish her on Rampage, and what she’s afraid of is what becomes of AEW if carny riff-raff like Rosa becomes champion.
Commentary hypes up our main event and we go to break.
Sammy Guevara (c) vs. Scorpio Sky (AEW TNT Championship)
Guevara hot out the gates with strikes in the corner, Sky turns him around with forearms of his own, a knee to the injured midsection, off the ropes, leapfrog, dropkick, kip-up and Scorpio goes to the floor! Big right hands, Sky gets thrown into the barricade and Sammy breaks the count!
Sammy gets a table out from under the ring and sets it up, throwing Scorpio into the steel steps for good measure. Up top, Sammy perches... 630 SENTON TO THE FLOOR AND THROUGH THE TABLE BUT SKY ROLLS OUT OF THE WAY! Tay Conti rushes out with the medic to check on Sammy as we go to break.
Back from commercial, Sammy is hurting but he wants to continue! Right hands, Sky lights him up with knees and dumps him to the floor! Tay Conti gets into it briefly with Paige VanZant at ringside as Scorpio presses the attack, hitting a backbreaker. Guevara has the will to pieface him so he hits another backbreaker!
Another backbreaker, kneeling reverse chinlock but Sammy fires up and starts throwing desperate forearms to back him off. Schoolboy pin, only two, a big chop, double jump Ace Crusher but he’s slow to the pin and Sky kicks out! TKO blocked, superkick, backbreaker rack... GTH CONNECTS BUT SCORPIO ROLLS UNDER THE ROPES!
Shooting star press... SKY GETS THE KNEES UP! Dan Lambert is up on the apron running interference, Tay Conti pulls “All Ego” Ethan Page off the apron and Paige VanZant blindsides her and throws her into the steel steps! Sky with the fireman’s carry...
Scorpio Sky wins by pinfall with the TKO, becoming your new AEW TNT Champion.
Post-match, Scorpio blasts Sammy with the title belt and PVZ throws Conti into the ring to lay her out with a buzzsaw roundhouse kick! Paige signs her AEW contract on Tay’s ass!
That’s the show, folks.
