Here’s why Chris Jericho lost against that jobber on AEW Dynamite

AEW Dynamite

Chris Jericho vs. Some Jobber may have been the most exciting match on last night’s (Dec. 14) Winter is Coming episode of AEW Dynamite.

The jobber’s name is Action Andretti, of course, and his days as an AEW jobber are presumably over thanks to his miraculous win against The Ocho last night.

Jericho masterfully set up the whole thing with a promo earlier in the show where he disrespectfully referred to Andretti as a jobber. That was enough to get the live audience firmly in Andretti’s corner from the outset, and losing their minds as he dodged or survived each one of Jericho’s signature moves, before finally pulling off the unthinkable win.

So, where did this unconventional booking decision come from? Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer has the answer:

“Action Andretti had a match on one of the streaming shows against QT Marshall. Chris Jericho was watching the match and decided, at that moment, that this guy’s gonna be a star. And so he decided that he was going to make him a star.

And this is a ways back...this was not something where it was decided yesterday. This was weeks and weeks and weeks ago. The date was decided the day of the Action Andretti and QT match.”

To be more exact, the aforementioned Andretti vs. Marshall match aired on the Oct. 11 episode of AEW Dark, which you can go back and watch right here to see what the fuss is all about. Marshall actually won that match via Diamond Cutter.

Jericho apparently saw all he needed to see from Andretti on that night over two months ago, and decided that he was going to put Action over after his run as ROH world champion came to an end.

How do you think AEW booker Tony Khan will follow up on Action’s big win, Cagesiders?
