After a Penta El Zero M hammer-shot to Nick Jackson’s leg allowed Death Triangle to take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Trios title series with The Elite — where all of Penta, PAC & Rey Fenix’s wins have come via The Bastard’s weapon of choice — Kenny Omega pitched making next Wednesday’s fifth match a No Disqualification affair.
Tony Khan approved that for Dec. 21 in San Antonio, and went further. Should they be necessary, he also added a Falls Count Anywhere stipulation to match six in Denver on Dec. 28, and made a possible deciding final bout in Los Angeles on Jan. 11 an Escalera de la Muerte (ladder) match.
Which all sounds fun, and should help to spice up the series. The match quality in the series has been high, as expected. But a little variety never hurts.
And while it’s not like we didn’t all expect the series to go the distance, this more or less confirms it. They’re not going to not do a winner-takes-all ladder match in L.A. in front of Warner Bros Discovery executives.
In other booking news, in addition to the no DQ fifth helping of Death Triangle vs. The Elite, three other things were announced for next Wednesday’s Holiday Bash show in San Antone:
• Jamie Hayter (c) vs. Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women’s championship
• FTR vs. Gunn Club
• Keith Lee/Swerve Strickland face-to-face
