Adam Cole’s name is pretty popular

Recently, Adam Cole told Chris Jericho that during discussions prior to his decision to leave the company, WWE floated the idea of changing his name on their main roster.

When writing about that revelation, I (like Cole and Jericho) posited that it was a very, very bad idea. Because, while he had many attributes as sports entertainer pro wrestler, the name “Adam Cole” and the two catchphrases associated with it, “BOOM” and “BAY BAY”, are the most recognizable and popular things about his act.

In support of that, may I present Exhibit A, his entrance to Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens for the Grand Slam edition of Rampage which aired on Fri., Sept. 24. There were several loud “BOOM”s along the way, but the climactic moment was downright deafening...

And Exhibit B, which is that the song which contains those two catchphrases is now the top song on iTunes Metal chart:

While you’re wondering if that would have happened if he were now Klif Sternz (BAY BAY), here are the highlights from Rampage:

  • Watch the Finish of CM Punk’s First Televised Match in 7 Years
  • Jorge Masvidal & America’s Top Team Smash Chris Jericho & Hager
  • Not the Cue Cards! TNT Champ Miro Lets his Fists do the Talking
  • Mox & Kingston v Suzuki-gun in the Main Event + Who Showed Up?
