AEW Rewind: Ruby Soho is the voice for freaks, Dark Order civil war continues, more!

Don’t have time to follow all of AEW’s online content? Don’t worry. We got you covered with the AEW Rewind, which will rewind through social media bits and YouTube videos from the past week to prepare you for Wednesday night Dynamite.

A super stacked version of “Road to Grand Slam,” hyped Kenny Omega versus Bryan Danielson, Malakai Black versus Cody Rhodes, Sting & Darby Allin versus FTR, Ruby Soho versus Dr. Britt Baker DMD, Scorpio Sky & Ethan Page versus Chris Jericho & Jake Hager, post-show comments from Lancer Archer after hitting the Blackout on Eddie Kingston and Minoru Suzuki choking out Jon Moxley, and Adam Cole reflecting on his debut win. The episode is long but definitely worth watching before tonight’s super show.

One of the more interesting soundbites came from Ruby Soho. She believes the fans do the talking for her. They are her voice, and she is theirs. Soho represents the outcasts, misfits, and freaks. She plans to bring the AEW Women’s World Championship home to the freaks. I can’t help but think of Scott Steiner and his peaks, even though, those freaks are a different type. Soho talks a big game, but the champ isn’t worried.

Black had an interesting take on Cody. Black did his best to reel Cody back by destroying members of the Nightmare Family. Black touched on how that faction has never felt like a real unit. While they fought to defend Cody’s honor, the man himself was off in Hollywood. Cody may last longer in the rematch, but Cody is still the same man as when he contemplated retirement. Thus, Black is confident that the outcome will be another victory.

For story beats on Elevation and Dark, the Dark Order civil war saw 5 & 10 wrestle Evil Uno & Colt Cabana. 5 treated it like a fight, 10 saw it more like a match, Uno used sneaky tricks, and Cabana tried to remain civil. Eventually, emotions boiled over into a slugfest. Uno grabbed 5’s mask to finish him. As 5 shoved Uno away, the mask came off unintentionally. Alex Reynolds and John Silver perceived it as on purpose. 5 was able to take advantage with a jackknife pin to win. Afterward, 5 extended a handshake to Uno, but Uno did not accept and rolled out of the ring like a sore loser.

Sonny Kiss and Joey Janela squared off in a sanctioned match. Janela’s muscle lady was finally acknowledged as Kayla Rossi. Kiss showed impressive heart by kicking out of a Spanish Fly and two piledrivers. Janela connected on a flying elbow drop, but Kiss countered into a crucifix pin upon impact to win. Afterward, Janela bashed Kiss with a chair. Rossi hit a standing backflip double stomp to wow the viewers.

Dustin Rhodes defeated QT Marshall by shedding off a cutter for a running bulldog. Lee Johnson evened the odds ringside, so Rhodes could finish with the Final Reckoning swinging suplex.

All three of those matches from Elevation are worth checking out for the storylines. The emotion was palpable. 5 and Kiss were set up nicely as babyfaces thanks to the actions from Uno and Janela.

Cody Rhodes was the guest for the return of Shot of Brandi (here). They made spicy margaritas and breakfast burritos. Cody told dad jokes and tossed tortillas into the air like pizza dough.

Chris Jericho’s cruise has added Matt Sydal, Mike Sydal, Chuck Taylor, Ryan Nemeth, Ricky Starks, Kris Statlander, and JD Drake to the list.

Being the Elite

“How’s It Taste?” Being The Elite, Ep. 274 (here) featured:

  • The Young Bucks signed merch for fans. Nick Jackson and Brandon Cutler went on another sneaker shopping spree.
  • John Silver milked Bear Bronson by throwing coffee creamers at him.
  • Cutler pleaded with Adam Cole to take out “Elite Hunter” Frankie Kazarian.
  • Ryan Nemeth’s cream film showed meditation at the beach. There is no such thing as evil cream.
  • Matt Lee retained the BTE Championship against Colt Cabana in a contest throwing a tape roll to knock water bottles off a table.
  • Leva Bates received a note from Peter Avalon. He ratted out Alex Reynolds for having a wife and new baby. Bates refused to believe the news about Reynolds.
  • Drunk Silver chatted with Leyla Hirsch to drink urine, then Reynolds rolled in. Reynolds encouraged Silver to sober up, so they can recruit new friends. Silver was hoping for Batista.

We’ll close with Cody Rhodes new shirt. I don’t know if the design will be foreshadowing anything for tonight’s match against Malakai Black, but it has a rising from the ashes flavor.
