CM Punk is having some fun with his expected AEW debut tonight

The wrestle web is all aflutter ahead of what we’re all expecting sometime between 10 and 11pm ET tonight at Chicago’s United Center & on TNT - the return of CM Punk to pro wrestling on AEW’s “The First Dance” edition of Rampage.

A skilled worker like Punk wouldn’t want to miss out on any of that action - or attention. Eagle-eyed obsessives like yours truly have found the platform Punk’s using to stir up even more interest in AEW’s Aug. 20 show (and do some light trolling). It’s his Instagram Story.

The day started with an iconic image from The Dark Knight Returns, Frank Miller’s influential 1980s graphic novel about an aging Bruce Wayne coming out of bat-retirement to save Gotham City from gangs, The Joker, and even a government stooge Superman.

If that’s not enough for you, that one is set to Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now”. Specifically the opening lyrics, “Tonight I’m gonna have myself a real good time, I feel alive”.

From there, Punk beats Twitter scoopsters to the punch by being the first to post a pic purporting to show him on his way to tonight’s venue.

His latest offering (as of 2pm ET), is a shot of Matthew McConaughey as Rust Cohle in season one of HBO’s True Detective. It’s the undercover cop taking an intense drag on a cigarette shortly after snorting cocaine to maintain his cover, and right before doing even more serious crime for the same reason. The image has become a reaction meme for things people are wired or anxious about... like walking out on a pro wrestling show in your hometown after seven years out of the business.

Clear enough for you?

Okay, now I’m going back to listening to a Living Colour playlist on repeat.
