AEW Rampage live results, open thread (Aug. 20, 2021): The First Dance

Chicago Bull’s Twitter

Here’s a place to check results and comment along with a new episode of AEW Rampage, airing tonight at 10 pm ET on TNT.

The First Dance edition of AEW’s new show comes our way from Chicago’s United Center, and is all about the return of CM Punk to the pro wrestling world - even if neither he nor Tony Khan will confirm that. While we wait for The Best in the World, we’ll also see Jade Cargill dismantle Kiera Hogan, Jurassic Express battle Private Party in the Tag Title Eliminator Tournament, and Jon Moxley make an example of Daniel Garcia.

Come right back here at 10 pm ET when Rampage kicks off on TNT. We’ll update the post with everything that happens on the show below the line.

REMINDER: Please keep GIFs and pics to a minimum. They slow down updates and refreshes for some of your fellow community members.

Enjoy the show!

AEW RAMPAGE RESULTS FOR AUG. 20

- The crowd is LOUD from the jump. CM Punk chants rain down. The announcers (Excalibur, Mark Henry, Taz & Jim Ross in for Chris Jericho) run down the card. The major announcement is first...

- CULT OF PERSONALITY HITS! THE TRON SAYS PUNK! HE’S HERE!

- CM Punk has tears in his eyes as he kneels down on the ramp. He spends a lot of time with fans on his way to the ring, then grabs a mic as Excalibur tells us we’ll hear from him after the break.

- Punk announces he’s back, and tells us he won’t get to everything tonight, but he’s got time, because he’ll be around Wednesdays, Fridays, and four weekends a month. He apologizes if he offended anyone in the last seven years, but he couldn’t get better in the place that got him sick. After a story about what ROH meant to him, he compares that environment to AEW. When he left Ring of Honor, he left pro wrestling. Tonight, he’s back.

- Talking about all the young talent he wants to work with (he also mentions a couple old scores he needs to settle) leads to a Darby Allin call-out. Allin is in the rafters with Sting, where he learns he has an All Out match with CM Punk.

- Jurassic Express def. Private Party via pinfall, hitting their double-team powerbomb on Isiah Kassidy to advance to the finals of in the Tag Team Eliminator Tournament. They’ll face the winners of Varsity Blondes/Lucha Bros on next Wednesday’s Dynamite for the right to face The Young Bucks for the Tag titles at All Out.

- An irate Kenny Omega promos from backstage with Don Callis. This whole First Dance thing was supposed to be for him, but Christian Cage ruined it. So at All Out, he’s sending Cage back into retirement.

- Pre-match hype video so Keira Hogan can talk about how Jade Cargill is overlooking her and Cargill can say “uh-uh”

- Jade Cargill was right. She def. Kiera Hogan via pinfall with Jaded in about a minute.

- Punk will be on Dynamite Wednesday. We learn that atop a rundown of that card, and are told the Tag Eliminator Finals are next Friday on Rampage.

- Mark Henry handles a remote interview with the main eventers. 2.0 hype up their guy Daniel Garcia, then Jon Moxley ethers the lot of them. He says Garcia has a better chance of getting him pregnant tonight than he does of beating him.

- Jon Moxley def. Daniel Garcia via submission

- 2.0 and Garcia start a beatdown on Mox after the bell, but Eddie Kingston, Darby Allin & Sting all run. Jeff Parker takes a Stinger Splash and a Scorpion Death Drop, Matt Lee gets splashed by Allin, then the both get Coffin Dropped to close the show.
