AEW released their latest rankings (Aug. 18, 2021). Let’s check out the movers and shakers. AEW posted the rankings during the Dynamite broadcast, so last night’s wins and losses are not reflected in the top 5 groupings.
No changes for the men this week. There’s likely to be no movement next week, since none of the top 5 wrestled in singles action on Dynamite or are booked for singles duty on Rampage.
The women’s division is bouncing up, down, and all around. Kris Statander is the new #1 with an undefeated record this year. Story signs point to her being the next challenger for Dr. Britt Baker DMD. Thunder Rosa dropped from the top spot to #2. Red Velvet was #3, but she bottomed out after a loss to Baker on Rampage. Tay Conti and Hikaru Shida both moved up one place accordingly. Penelope Ford was back in the mix at #5. I say that in past tense, because she lost to Thunder Rosa on Dynamite. Ford will surely hit the bricks as a different wrestler fills in next week.
Lucha Bros leapfrogged Private Party from #4 to #3. Fenix and Pentagon have a chance to sneak into the #1 slot next week if they can rack up multiple wins on Elevation and Dark. Jurassic Express lost a title match to the Young Bucks last night on Dynamite. Don’t fret for Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus though. They will have an opportunity to earn another championship contest for All Out. All Jurassic Express need to do is win a four-team tournament including Varsity Blonds, Private Party, and Lucha Bros. It kicks off on Rampage with Jurassic Express versus Private Party. Varsity Blonds versus Lucha Bros will be on Dynamite. Hip hip hooray for interesting top 5 matchups to flesh out a true #1 contender.
Do you agree with AEW’s rankings this week? If not, what would you change?
