Rampage could be very good for AEW’s young stars & Forbidden Door partners

The Aug. 11 episode of Dynamite definitely felt less eventful, or urgent, than the last month or so of shows.

While probably not the sole reason, a big one was the focus on making Friday’s premiere of Rampage must see. AEW will be pushing their second TNT show hard out of the gate. That means adding more set-up to Wednesdays, and moving big matches we probably would have seen on Dynamite to Rampage.

An audience trained on two filler-free (or at least filler-light) hours every Wednesday will probably squawk like Nick Jackson. But if this week is any indication, there will be a few beneficiaries.

AEW’s younger stars, who up until now have mostly toiled on Dark and Dark: Elevation, should get prime television spots. Dante Martin took what could have been something everyone waited through to get to the post-match promos and turned it into a personal showcase. He had the Pittsburgh crowd, and Wrestling Twitter, eating out of the palm of his hand with his non-stop aerial assault on Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks. Commentary put Daniel Garcia and his busy week over in a major way during his loss to Darby Allin.

We also saw two of Tony Khan’s Forbidden Door partners get a lot of screen time. Impact titles were defended last night (with Scott D’Amore on commentary promoting the show he books), and one will be on the Rampage premiere, too. The NWA and were put in focus as their Women’s champ Kamille got a video package to tell us what she’s going to do to Leyla Hirsch at the upcoming Empowerrr PPV.

It’s the the same as Dynamite being packed with big matches and a surprise debut every week. The Rampage era will take some getting used to. But there are reasons to get excited.

YouTube videos from Dynamite are being doled out slowly, as is AEW’s model these days. But we’ve compiled what they’ve released as of this morning in this playlist, and tried to catch you up with the rest of the episode via Twitter clips below that.
