AEW’s ratings are down for their return to the road

AEW on Twitter

Dynamite’s ratings soared last week with AEW’s return to its regular Wednesday time slot. Given the tough competition from the NBA playoffs that night, the impressive numbers were a strong sign that AEW could quickly grow their weekly audience back up to one million viewers.

That didn’t happen for last night’s (July 7) broadcast, with ratings and viewership actually slipping down from the prior week. Per WrestleNomics’ Brandon Thurston, Dynamite brought in an hourly average audience of 871,000 viewers, with a 0.33 rating in the key 18 to 49 year old demographic. That’s slightly down compared to last week’s 883K / 0.35.

The NBA Finals had the night off, so that wasn’t a factor this time around. AEW instead had to deal with Game 5 of the NHL’s Stanley Cup Finals.

Many folks assumed that ratings and general interest in pro wrestling would see an increase once live fans return and companies get back on the road. In the case of Dynamite, their return to the road doesn’t appear to have helped their numbers, at least not in week one.

It looks like Dynamite will be up against Game 4 of the NBA Finals next week (July 14), so these numbers might see a bigger drop then. Then again, AEW is advertising the return of Jon Moxley next week, so they are certainly hoping that Fyter Fest night one will get numbers moving back up again.

Here’s a breakdown of AEW viewership and rating in the 18-49 demo over the last year:
