AEW Rewind: Cody Rhodes & QT Marshall will not bond through battle, more!

Don’t have time to follow all of AEW’s online content? Don’t worry. We got you covered with the AEW Rewind, which will rewind through social media bits and YouTube videos from the past week to prepare you for Wednesday night Dynamite.

Road to Dynamite: Road Rager hyped Cody Rhodes versus QT Marshall in a strap match, the street fight tag title bout between the Young Bucks and Eddie Kingston & Pentagon, as well as the next chapter in the Inner Circle’s feud with the Pinnacle for Jake Hager, Santana, & Ortiz in trios action against FTR & Wardlow.

The strap match will be four corners rules. Cody is going to make sure QT feels the pain, since the match was QT’s suggestion. Cody wishes they could bond by battle, but they probably won’t. QT said he won’t stop until he has Cody’s spot. That means as a wrestler, EVP, and Hollywood connections. The other two segments pretty much rehashed the same talking points for their feuds. Overall, the video does a good job mixing music into the promos to build the mood.

Sammy Guevera released a statement following his loss to MJF.

I gave it my all. Every time I get the opportunity to wrestle I give it my all. That’s all I ever known how to do. All of nothing.

This will be my 11th year doing this professionally. A lot of bumps, bruises, blood, sweat, tears and so so much more than anyone will ever see have gone into this.

I feel pretty banged up, yesterday wasn’t my night but that doesn’t mean tomorrow won’t be. So I will continue on this path.

I will heal up and be back.

And mark my words Sammy Guevara will be Champion in AEW.

MJF released a statement in response.

Frankie Kazarian insulted the soft friends surrounding the Elite. When a wolf is knocking at the door, do not send a sheep to answer it.

On Dark last night, Sonny Kiss accepted Joey Janela’s friendship to once again become a tag team. The key thing to convince Kiss was Janela handing over a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses. It turns out that the pair of shades was from their adventures fighting goobers at a gas station. Nice touch calling back to that little detail.

If you are a fan of Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page as a duo, then you have one man to thank. Tony Khan! During the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Page revealed how the pairing was Khan’s idea. Page didn’t understand it at first, and now it is his favorite thing as best friends with the best chemistry.

Anna Jay was the latest guest on Outside the Ring with Lexy Nair (here). Her favorite movie is Dirty Dancing and her favorite concert was a Hannah Montana show. Those answers both sound ripe for skit material with the Dark Order on Being the Elite. During the interview, 5 interrupted to get help tying his shoe.

Being the Elite

“Mustache” - Being The Elite, Ep. 263 (here) featured:

  • Peter Avalon was at the bar when Leva Bates entered. Alex Reynolds interrupted their awkward chit chat. He asked Avalon to leave, because the Dark Order rented the bar for a get-together. After Avalon exited, Reynolds sidled up to Bates.
  • The Young Bucks debuted their new mustaches on Dynamite. Highlights played from their match against Eddie Kingston & Pentagon.
  • Back to Reynolds and Bates flirting with each other while Avalon was outside in the rain with a distraught look on his face.
  • The Bucks were confused by their loss. Karl Anderson claimed they were not cheating enough. The Jacksons blamed it on the new mustaches. They were angry at Brandon Cutler, since it was his idea. Kenny Omega walked in excited about all their magnificent mustaches. It was a tough look for tough men.
  • Griff Garrison confessed to Ryzin that he doesn’t like Brian Pillman Jr. as his tag team partner. Pillman’s dog took a dump on his shoe, and Pillman often brags about his mullet being better than Garrison’s curly hair. Later, Pillman confessed that he is frustrated about sharing shampoo with Garrison. Now, Garrison thinks his hair is better and looks down on Pillman.
  • Hangman Page and the Dark Order watched the sex scene in Hangman’s movie. The cowboy left to get a different lens for a re-shoot. The Bucks walked in to complain about the Dark Order stirring up the emotions of Omega versus Hangman. Enough is enough, and it is time for a change. The Bucks kicked Dark Order off BTE. They were relegated to BTE Dark, also known as Sammy Guevara’s vlog. An awkward glance was exchanged when the Bucks passed Hangman in the hallway.

The Young Bucks kicking the Dark Order off BTE was a smart way to tie in all the extra shows to make it feel like one universe with consequences for one’s actions. The more important part was the subtle glances between the Bucks and Hangman with the not so subtle music to signify the baggage in their relationship. If Hangman and the Elite ever bury the hatchet, then I hope they can reunite for a match on the roof of a building, like that famous Beatles concert.

With the new facial hair, it’s too bad the Bucks didn’t change their closing animated scene to, “Who wants a mustache ride?” It fits perfectly with the next line, “I do! I do!”

We’ll close with Frankie Kazarian having harsh words for Pretty Peter Avalon’s delicate fingers. On a recent episode of Dark, Kaz stomped Avalon’s fingers during his win over JD Drake. Avalon was not pleased, nor was Kaz.

Kaz continued his ornery replies after Avalon went back to the nail saloon.

I’m looking forward to the Wingmen Hunter chapter of Frankie Kazarian’s story.
