The main event of this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite was an ultra-violent and bloody deathmatch between Nick Gage and Chris Jericho.
During the bout, AEW threw to a commercial for Domino’s Pizza right in the middle of Gage carving Jericho’s head open with a pizza cutter. The timing of this ad spot seemed too perfect to be a coincidence. But Domino’s has denied having any knowledge of the stunt ahead of time, and is now reconsidering their relationship with AEW.
Here is the statement their spokeswoman Jenny Fouracre-Petko issued to Front Office Sports:
“We share the concerns expressed about this incident and the content of this TV-14 rated program, and are assessing our advertising presence on it going forward.”
The war between Jericho and Gage was a ratings hit, but the violence on display may have crossed the line, or at least made things uncomfortable for one of AEW’s advertising partners.
Do you think AEW made a mistake by bringing in Nick Gage for a one-off main event deathmatch on Dynamite?
