Dynamite proves wrestling can still surprise

Nick Gage’s Twitter

Nick Gage. Chris Jericho. No DQ. National television.

Whatever your excitement level for the match itself, if you tell me you knew that was coming - at July 28’s Fight For The Fallen or anywhere - else? Well, as Gage might say, you’re a fucking liar.

But it’s happening. MJF of all people, who will probably get stabbed by Gage on his way out the door after doing the job for Jericho next Wednesday in Charlotte, introduced him last night (July 21) on Dynamite. And the wrestling world let out a collective “HOLY SHIT!”

It was one of several unexpected moments on last night’s show, along with Sting doing his best Orange Cassidy impression, Chavo Guerrero’s arrival, and Lance Archer’s title win.

Other companies can earn a pop when they catch us off guard, and we can make a lot of noise even for things we pretty much know are coming. But AEW is an on impressive run of really surprising us. It’s something I kind of wrote off as a relic of wrestling past. I’m glad they’re proving me wrong.

YouTube videos are being doled out slowly, as is AEW’s model these days. But we’ve compiled what they’ve released as of this morning in this playlist, and tried to catch you up with the rest of the episode via Twitter clips below that.

  • MUST SEE: Sting & Orange Cassidy Face Off for the First Time Ever
  • Who Walked Away with the NJPW IWGP US Title? Mox or Archer?
  • AEW Fyter Fest Night Two Post Show
