Ricky Starks returns to action less than three months after neck fracture

With AEW’s upcoming return to the road, the company is promoting matches for the next three weeks of Dynamite. Here’s the rundown of what’s scheduled for AEW television thus far in July.

July 7 - Road Rager

  • Young Bucks (c) vs. Eddie Kingston & Penta El Zero Miedo (AEW tag team title match)
  • Cody Rhodes vs. QT Marshall (South Beach Strap match)
  • Santana, Ortiz, Hager w/Konnan vs. FTR & Wardlow w/Blanchard
  • Orange Cassidy & Kris Statlander vs. The Bunny & The Blade (Mixed tag team match)
  • Matt Sydal vs. Andrade El Idolo
  • MJF will reveal stipulations for Jericho to earn a match against him

July 14 - Fyter Fest night one

  • Brian Cage (c) vs. Ricky Starks (FTW championship match)

July 21 - Fyter Fest night two

  • Britt Baker (c) vs. Nyla Rose (AEW Women’s championship match)

It’s also very likely that a Coffin match between Darby Allin and Ethan Page will take place on one of the Fyter Fest episodes. This bout was originally going to happen at Road Rager on July 7, but plans changed.

The July 14 FTW championship match will be Ricky Starks’ return match after suffering a fractured neck on Apr. 21 in a fight against Hangman Page. The injury was expected to keep Ricky out for three months, so he’s beating that timetable by one week. It seems to me like he has a decent chance to win the unrecognized gold, because Brian Cage’s departure from Team Taz has been obvious for a while. A screwjob finish here gives Taz a way to keep his FTW title in Team Taz, while also allowing them to finally sever ties with The Machine.
