AEW Dynamite preview (June 26, 2021): Jungle Boy has the biggest match of his career

New, 5 comments

All Elite Wrestling comes our way from Jacksonville, Florida. Last week, Jake Hager defeated Wardlow in an MMA style match but was blindsided by The Pinnacle when he tried to fist-bump his opponent after the bout. Taz admitted that Team Taz is sick with infighting. Darby Allin got destroyed by Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky in the 2-on-1 match he requested. Orange Cassidy defeated The Wingmen’s Cezar Bononi, narrowly escaping a makeover. Kenny Omega and his crew got some last-minute bullying in on Jungle Boy. Matt Hardy caged Christian Cage. Cody Rhodes and Brock Anderson defeated QT Marshall and Aaron Solow in a match that happened. Jake and Lance tuned in from a dilapidated warehouse to send threats to the AEW roster. El Idolo told Jim Ross that he has a future surprise in store. Penelope Ford reminded us all that she’s more than a pretty face. Vickie Guerrero made some demands of the champ, Britt Baker. Jade Cargill is tag-teaming with a hotel chain. Finally, Matt Jackson and The Good Brothers cheated their way into another victory over Penta El Zero Miedo, Eddie Kingston & Frankie Kazarian.

This Week’s Headliner:

Unlikely challenger and crowd favorite Jungle Boy surprised the AEW universe and The AEW World Champion when he eliminated Christian Cage in the Casino Battle Royale to earn a future title shot. Tonight he cashes in that title opportunity when he goes one-on-one with Kenny Omega in our main event.

The likelihood of Jungle Boy winning the title is very slim, especially since Kenny and his pals love to pull shenanigans and cheat to win. But Jungle Boy’s winning the title isn’t really the point here. Yes, wins and losses matter, but this match exists to highlight the incredible talent of this young man.

It’s akin to Hangman Page’s championship match with Chris Jericho. No one was shocked that Jericho won, but the world fell in love with Hangman that night, and he will very likely be the man who takes the belt off Kenny Omega in the future. This moment could and should be pivotal in shaping Jungle Boy’s career.

TNT Champion Miro has been CRUSHING his competition lately, but that doesn’t mean he has let go of his past rivals and mistakes. After Penelope Ford’s match last week, Miro came out looking for her husband and his former best friend Kip Sabian. Naturally, he attacked Griff Garrison when he couldn’t find Kip and ended up in a brawl with Brian Pillman, Jr. No match has been announced, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Miro continue his brawl with Pillman tonight.

Sure, the AEW Tag Team Champions are still champions, but they keep cheating to win. Which, yeah, perfect total heel move, but the problem with consistently cheating to win is that your opponents don’t simply give up when hit with that big L. The Bucks have a pretty long list of enemies, and future challengers, and their actions keep adding to it. Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley, Death Triangle, Frankie Kazarian, etc. etc. They don’t have a match scheduled for tonight, but they better keep their championships close and their heads on a swivel because they have a match with Penta and Eddie next week, and if their challengers win, they get a title shot!

Last week Vickie Guerrero interrupted an interview featuring the AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker. Vickie informed Britt that it will be Vickie & Nyla Rose vs. Baker & Rebel in a tag team match on the June 30 edition of Dynamite. When you bring in big guns like Andrade El Idolo, you get favors from on high. Tonight expect a promo or two, maybe even a hype package to advertise this match for next week.

Other things to keep an eye on:

-Although Hangman Adam Page said he would be watching the main event closely (as he is a top-ranked competitor) tonight, he has to split that focus when he takes on the only member of Team Taz who wants to be in Team Taz, Powerhouse Hobbs.

-Kris Statlander has spent a lot of time hanging out with her best friends since her return, but tonight she returns to in-ring action when she takes on evil and mischievous The Bunny.

-Capitalizing on his win over Darby Allin last week, Ethan Page will wrestle Bear Bronson tonight.

-Konnan and Tully Blanchard have a little chat mano y mano scheduled. Presumably, to compare notes on how and why their respective factions keep losing.

-Dante Martin takes on Matt Sydal because sometimes a Dark match makes it onto Dynamite.

Tune into AEW on TNT at 8 pm ET to see how this all plays out!
