AEW released their latest rankings (June 23, 2021). Let’s check out the movers and shakers.
Darby Allin took a hit after losing the handicap match against Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page. He dropped from #3 to #5. Orange Cassidy and Will Hobbs moved up accordingly.
AEW World Champion Kenny Omega defends the gold against #1 Jungle Boy on Saturday night Dynamite. The show will also have a top 5 match-up between #2 Hangman Page and #4 Hobbs. I’m betting that the champ and the cowboy will emerge victorious. That should cement Hangman next in line for a title shot, however, Cassidy would be looming large right behind. He was on the losing end of shenanigans in the three-way championship contest with Omega and PAC. The question would be if AEW wants to pull the trigger on Hangman versus Omega or if they figure a way to slide OC in before Hangman.
The women’s top 5 is stacked with killers. Dr. Britt Baker DMD has her work cut out for her in the near future as champion. Kris Statlander hopped over Hikaru Shida into #4 due to a win on Elevation. With no losses this year, I can envision Statlander ending up as the PPV opponent for Baker at All Out on September 5.
It is interesting to note that Tay Conti has the most wins of all divisions this year. She is an example of hard work paying off. Time will tell if she can parlay that into earning the championship. There will be tough competition with Thunder Rosa, Statlander, and Shida all worthy of dethroning Baker.
FTR is picking up steam. They leapfrogged Private Party after a win on Elevation. FTR will soon have a date with Santana & Ortiz in the feud between the Pinnacle and the Inner Circle. The Young Bucks better beware of the winner. Both duos will have backup to even the playing field against the Elite’s cheating ways.
Do you agree with AEW’s rankings this week? If not, what would you change?
