Triple H was feeling ornery during last week’s pre-TakeOver media call. Mostly he was taking aim at fans, but the competition got caught in the crossfire when he spoke about calls for WWE to produce another all-women’s wrestling PPV like 2018’s Evolution.

AEW & NWA star Thunder Rosa replied eloquently to the The Game’s claim that “the best female performers in the world are in WWE, and if they’re not, they want to be,” and others like Impact Knockouts champ Deonna Purrazzo and indie promotion Shimmer followed suit.

On Fri., June 11’s Busted Open Podcast, AEW President Tony Khan offered his take:

“I think we already had, in my opinion, the best roster in wrestling. And I don’t think there is anything wrong with - look, everybody’s building their own roster. They’re gonna have good feelings about the people they work with. I don’t think there is anything wrong with saying you think you have the best show or the best company. I think where people got offended yesterday was when he [Triple H] said everybody wants to work there.

People are confusing the two things. If you want to say, ‘Hey, I think my show is the best. I think our product’s the best,’ there’s nothing wrong with that. You should feel that way. That’s good. But when you say ‘Everybody wants to work here, anybody of any value wants to work here,’ that’s just not true. It’s crazy. There’s plenty of people that work in AEW that have no interest in working there. And I think the champion [Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D.] made it pretty clear yesterday with what she tweeted.”

A very reasonable response (good thing Hunter’s last name isn’t Khan, I guess), And to Triple H’s credit, he sounded a similar note on the the post-TakeOver: In Your House media call last night (June 13):

“I’m happy with where we are. I’m happy with the talent pool we have, and where they’re gonna take us. It’s a group of incredibly talented people. I’ll put that out against anything. I think we have one of the greatest rosters in the world across the board.”

May the best promotion win. And the great thing about it is, no matter what, we the fans do win!
