Episode 91 of AEW Dark featured the Dark Order winning over the fans and Jungle Boy on a winning streak.
This episode was pretty much all matches. The footage was taped daytime during the Double or Nothing Fan Fest. Jacksonville Jaguars cheerleaders were ringside.
Here’s the Dark lineup with ratings (Dynamite, competitive, showcase, squash) on which matches are worth your time toward Dynamite:
- Wingmen vs. Gunn Club (showcase)
- Kris Statlander vs. Robyn Renegade (showcase)
- TH2 & Serpentico vs. 5, Stu Grayson, & Alex Reynolds (competitive)
- Diamante vs. Red Velvet (competitive)
- Bear Bronson vs. Jungle Boy (showcase)
The trios bout and the women’s contest were the best of the bunch. The rest were enjoyable with good energy.
Watch the show here.
Excalibur teamed with Taz to call the action. Justin Roberts was the ring announcer.
Gunn Club defeated Wingmen. Billy and Colten represented the Gunn Club, while Ryan Nemeth and Cezar Bononi represented the Wingmen. Peter Avalon was ringside. Hot tag to Billy to hit a Fame-ass-er on Bononi. Nemeth broke up the pin. Colten used slick evasive tactics to set Nemeth up for a double underhook neckbreaker to win.
A hype package for Jungle Boy versus Bear Bronson lead to a promo from JB. He has busy times ahead. Jungle Boy won the biggest match of his career in the Casino Battle Royale. His sights are set to wrestle Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship next week. He also has a tag match with Christian against Private Party. That story was put into play last night on Elevation. Beating Bronson will be the first step in showing why he is ready to be the next world champion.
Kris Statlander defeated Robyn Renegade. Best Friends were ringside wearing tinfoil pants. Renegade had moments of control, but Statlander elbowed out of a fireman’s carry to counter with a Big Bang Theory piledriver to win. Statlander was bleeding from the mouth. It may have been caused by contact to her lip piercing.
5, Stu Grayson, & Alex Reynolds defeated TH2 & Serpentico. Evil Uno, John Silver, Colt Cabana, and Luther were ringside. Luther interfered early, so the Dark Order chased him away. The Dark Order members in the match worked a series of hot tags. Grayson and Reynolds held Evans up for 5 to execute a moonsault onto Evan’s back. Serpentico hit a cannonball senton to break the pin. Evans got payback with a 450 splash to Reynolds, but Reynolds kicked out on the cover. In the end, the Dark Order used teamwork maneuvers to set up Evans for a fireman’s carry backbreaker from Grayson for victory.
Red Velvet defeated Diamante. Both women crushed signature moves for close pinfalls. Velvet rolled out of a German suplex then kicked Diamante in the knee. That set up a spinning head kick to win.
The Dark Order was excited for the crowds to be back. Last time fans were in attendance, they hated the Dark Order. Now, the Dark Order are fan favorites. Yippee!
Jungle Boy defeated Bear Bronson. Luchasaurus and Marko Stunt were ringside. The story was quickness versus power. Bronson mauled Jungle Boy, but JB showed his toughness to rally back. He closed with a DDT then a running elbow to the back of the head to earn the three count.
The shorter show was a pleasant change of pace for Dark. It hit that sweet spot of satisfaction without burnout. The trios bout was my favorite. I’ve seen numerous contests with the talent involved, and yet they still managed to be creative and keep the action fresh. Well done.
Jungle Boy is getting the full-court press treatment. He has had two promos and two solid wins in two nights since winning the world title shot. JD Drake and Bear Bronson are no joke. Jungle Boy showed quick thinking and the ability to adapt in each win. Those will be key traits necessary in upsetting Kenny Omega.
