Prior to the Women’s championship segment on Dynamite last night (May 28), the following audio went out on the Fite.tv international stream.
It captures AEW’s Spanish language announce quartet of Alex Abrahantes, Wille Urbina, Dasha Kuret & Thunder Rosa prepping to call the Hikaru Shida/Britt Baker scene. This is during what would have been a commercial break - not that makes what was said acceptable.
Based on multiple translations online (and to my high school-level Spanish ear), Abrahantes tells Urbina he’ll translate Shida’s promo during the segment. It’s then that Urbina begins doing a stereotypical, racist impersonation of an Asian. Kuret & Rosa laugh, seemingly nervously, while telling Urbina to stop.

In addition to being racist, the decision to go for a cheap laugh from his colleagues was just a dumb move from Urbina - live microphone or no. Mocking one of the most promoted female wrestlers in company history, when the pandemic & other factors have led to an increase in anti-Asian hate crimes, during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, when the owners of the company are Asian? Oof.

Tony Khan and AEW have yet to comment.
UPDATE: According to Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, Urbina has been “let go by AEW.”
