The ratings and viewership data are in for this week’s (May 12) episode of AEW Dynamite.
Per PW Torch, Dynamite netted 936,000 viewers for a 0.31 rating point in the 18-49 demographic.
This is a drop of about 154,000 viewers from the prior week, and a sharp decline from last week’s 0.42 demo rating.
It’s hard to match the hype of last week’s Blood & Guts show, but AEW jam packed this card with three title matches, a number one contender match, and an announcement from Cody Rhodes. The episode also set up a good chunk of the card for Double or Nothing, coming up on May 30. The end result was AEW’s lowest demo rating since the Wednesday night war ended last month.
We are only five episodes into this period with no competition from NXT. A lot of people like to talk about the big round number of one million viewers. It’s still not clear if AEW’s viewership will eventually settle above or below that line, though as a math person, it’s my obligation to remind you that it’s an arbitrary number that really isn’t all that different from the rest of the numbers that surround it.
It looks to me like AEW’s bigger concern should be getting that demo rating back up, since that 0.31 is the sort of number I’d expect to see when they actually did have competition from NXT on Wednesdays.
