The Young Bucks defended the AEW tag titles against SCU on tonight’s (May 12) episode of Dynamite.
The extra wrinkle here is that if Frankie Kazarian and Christopher Daniels failed to win, then they’re finished as a tag team. This condition has actually been at play with SCU for months now, but it has barely received a spotlight on Dynamite. The Bucks vowed to bring us another “I’m sorry, I love you” moment in professional wrestling, alluding to the way Shawn Michaels retired Ric Flair at WrestleMania 24 in 2008.
The main story of this match was Daniels shedding an insane amount of blood while fighting to win with everything he had to win.
They actually did do the HBK / Flair “I’m sorry, I love you” superkick spot late in the match, but Daniels kicked out of the pin attempt. Daniels botched the Best Moonsault Ever afterwards, but came back with another one.
That was his final burst. The Good Brothers interfered and something was sprayed in Daniels’ eyes. He still survived a little beyond that, but the BTE Trigger ultimately put him down.
The Bucks cheated to win, and now SCU must break up.
Before we could see the emotional post-match moment between Daniels and Kazarian, AEW cut to a backstage scene with Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston trashing The Elite’s locker room. Just like that, SCU jobbed to another angle in their final moments as a team.
