We may have a new #1 contender in AEW

The AEW rankings have consistently had the same man at the top of the men’s singles rankings: Adam “Hangman” Page.

That may have changed after tonight’s Dynamite opener.

After defeating Ricky Starks last week, the Hangman faced the blue chipper of Team Taz in Brian Cage. The match didn’t start clean. Cage attacked Page while he was walking out to the ring and powerbombed him on the ramp.

The match still happened, and despite taking a beating, Page fought back. But it wasn’t enough. Maybe he couldn’t overcome the pre-match cheap attack. Maybe it would have lost anyway. We’ll never know because Brian Cage is a coward. Either way, Brian Cage won with a Drill Claw.

But a loss is a loss and that could very possibly cost Hangman his spot at the top. Brian Cage won’t take the top spot right now. He’s not even on the Top 5. But he’ll likely crack it next week. Orange Cassidy, who was sitting at #2, may leapfrog Page and be out #1 contender.

We’ll find that out next week.

You can find all the results from tonight’s episode of Dynamite here.
