Tony Khan has more to say about the ‘huge star’ who is signing long-term with AEW

AEW on Twitter

AEW President Tony Khan is this week’s guest on the AEW Unrestricted podcast. Khan, who seems to now prefer being described as the winner of the 2020 Wrestling Observer Awards for “Best Booker” and “Promoter of the Year,” was on hand to hype up the AEW Revolution pay-per-view that’s taking place this Sunday, Mar. 7.

Paul Wight created major buzz for the event by dishing out the ‘biggest scoop ever’ about AEW signing a Hall of Fame worthy talent to a contract on Sunday.

Tony Khan followed up on that tease:

“[Paul Wight] told the world, and it’s true, that there’s gonna be a big star signed with AEW, and he’s coming here...this Sunday a major star in the world of wrestling, a huge, huge star, is gonna come and sign a multi-year contract with AEW on Sunday at the pay-per-view. So I can confirm what Paul said is true. And I’m not talking about the person in the ladder match...Paul’s talking about a big surprise, and that’s no joke.”

Khan makes sure to include the tidbit that this mystery person is signing a multi-year contract with the promotion. Khan also confirms that the mystery person who Wight referred to is different from the unannounced final entrant in the Face of the Revolution ladder match.

I almost feel bad for that unknown person in the ladder match, whose surprise appearance will almost certainly take a backseat to the incredible hype job that Khan and Wight are giving to the Hall of Fame worthy star will will sign a contract at Revolution. Khan did make sure to note that the winner of the ladder match will challenge Darby Allin for the TNT championship on the very next episode of Dynamite following Revolution.

Do you think AEW is going to deliver on Wight’s “biggest scoop ever” and Khan’s promise of a “huge, huge star” signing with AEW on Sunday, or will this one ultimately be a letdown?
