CM Punk responds to speculation that he’s the AEW mystery man

WWE.com

Last night’s (Mar. 3) episode of Dynamite included Paul Wight’s debut with AEW, where he claimed to have the “biggest scoop ever” about a Hall of Fame caliber star who will sign a contract with AEW this Sunday (Mar. 7) at their Revolution pay-per-view.

CM Punk’s return to the squared circle would certainly fit that description. Punk has been away from in-ring action since early 2014 when he left WWE, but his name always comes up in conversations like this; he remains one of the most popular (former?) wrestlers who is not signed to a major promotion. When Wight said that the mystery star is not who you think it is, one reasonable guess is that he was saying it’s not CM Punk.

Conveniently enough, Punk held a Q&A on Twitter today, where of course he was asked if he’s the AEW mystery man. In fact, it was such an obvious question to ask that Punk preemptively denied being the guy:

Punk would later go on to say that it’s “100% not me” and that AEW “should focus on who they have.” He also stated that he’s not frustrated when AEW hypes up surprises like this, which inevitably leads to him denying the rumors and speculation.

So that slams the door shut; it’s definitely not CM Punk.

But in the hypothetical situation where it is CM Punk, he would probably hold a Q&A on Twitter today and then give the same exact answers here, right?

Regardless, Punk’s words are convincing enough for me to cross him off the list for Revolution, along with Batista.

Are you buying Punk’s denial?
