AEW President Tony Khan spoke to the crowd at Jacksonville’s Daily’s Place tonight (Mar. 24), after the Dark: Elevation taping and prior to the start of this week’s live Dynamite.
In addition to thanking the socially distanced crowd for attending, he had some news. The company will be back in Daily’s Place on April 7 for another live episode of Dynamite - and AEW will be running their first non-televised event on Fri., April 9 in the same venue.
Prior to the pandemic, AEW travelled for tapings and broadcasts. But every show was packaged for television. As far as we know right now, the April 9 show won’t be.
That date is interesting because it’s on the eve of WrestleMania 37. There will be independent promotions running Friday night in Tampa, but WWE is off, as they’re scheduled to pre-tape the go home episode of SmackDown the week before so they can move ThunderDome to its new home in time for the WrestleMania fallout shows. Jacksonville is a three hour drive from Tampa, but it’s not inconceivable that the diehard fans who buy ‘Mania tickets would make the trip.
