CM Punk beats Daniel Garcia with a different finisher, and gets his next opponent

Tonight’s (Oct. 8) episode of AEW Rampage opened with CM Punk taking on Daniel Garcia in a singles match. Punk was looking for payback on Garcia for attacking him alongside 2point0 a few weeks ago in Chicago. They started the fight with him in Chicago, and Punk vowed to end it here in Philadelphia.

This was Punk’s third match since he debuted with AEW in August, and he went back to wearing long pants for this one.

On commentary, Chris Jericho described Punk as “a trained MMA fighter.” So would CM have any new tricks up his sleeve for Garcia?

How about diving off the top rope to the outside on three men at once?

Garcia worked Punk’s knee over and countered GTS into a sharpshooter. So Punk made an adjustment and dusted off the Anaconda Vice to score the win:

After defeating Darby Allin at All Out, Punk has spent the last few weeks on a brief tour of AEW’s lower card wrestlers. Punk vs. Matt Sydal has already been booked for next week’s Rampage, so the trend will continue.

But with the Full Gear 2021 pay-per-view event coming up on Nov. 13, AEW will have to find a much bigger name for Punk to square off with soon enough. Who do you think it will be?
