Darby Allin might need more than Sting to deal with MJF & The Pinnacle

A week ago, AEW kicked off a feud between two of what they’re calling the “four young pillars” of the company. That label is both a clever reference to All Japan Pro-Wrestling’s “Four Pillars of Heaven” (if you know, you know... and if you don’t, it still sounds cool), and a way to subtly respond to the criticism that Tony Khan signs & pushed too many ex-WWE stars. Mostly, it was quick way to set-up a program between two of those four young pillars, and explain why Maxwell Jacob Friedman was brushing off his loss to Chris Jericho and turning his focus to Darby Allin.

MJF tried to get under Allin’s skin by bringing up childhood trauma. Darby wasn’t going to fall for Max’s mind games, even when taunted about his dead uncle. On the Oct. 6 Dynamite, the former TNT champion explained why Friedman’s mind games won’t work on him. Then he went out and beat The Factory’s hoss, Nick Comoroto.

If you thought MJF would just walk away, you must not know Max (and are probably new to pro wrestling). Later on in last night’s show, Friedman got his boys from The Pinnacle together to jump Darby in the garage.

We were later told the attack left Allin unable to compete, so the inevitable Darby vs. MJF match is on hold for now. But it makes you wonder, does the Coffin Dropping fan favorite need more people? He and Sting dealt with Team Taz on their own, but The Pinnacle are showing they’re willing to take things farther than the FTW gang.

While you ponder if the face-painted duo need back-up, here are the highlights from last night’s Dynamite, including Allin’s above mentioned interview with Jim Ross and match with Comoroto. As is AEW’s model these days, YouTube videos are being doled out slowly. But we’ve compiled what they’ve released as of this morning in this playlist, and tried to catch you up with the rest of the episode via Twitter clips below that.
