AEW Rewind: Fish calls Punk a hypocrite, Danielson says Kingston’s lazy, Nese debut, more!

Don’t have time to follow all of AEW’s online content? Don’t worry. We got you covered with the AEW Rewind, which will rewind through social media bits and YouTube videos from the past week to prepare you for Wednesday night Dynamite.

“Road to Dynamite Boston,” hyped CM Punk versus Bobby Fish, Sammy Guevara versus Ethan Page for the TNT title, and 10 versus Jon Moxley.

The opening segment touched on a few interesting points. Punk explained that he was late to the show last week. Upon arrival, he learned of Sting being jumped. When he saw Fish being a jerk, Punk made it a priority to kick his ass. Punk was cranky in his interview, and it makes me curious if he will carry that same energy into the match.

On the other hand, Fish isn’t interested in seeing Punk as the sheriff. Fish pointed out that Punk is not free of sin in his past transgressions and is a hypocrite talking the talk but rarely walking that walk. There is meat on the bone of Fish’s assessment. He’s not wrong about Punk, however, that doesn’t mean Punk hasn’t changed in his time away. It’s too bad this is likely a one-off feud, because there are some intriguing talking points to be explored.

Bryan Danielson called out Eddie Kingston’s work ethic. Danielson believes Kingston could have won a world title if he put in the work outside the ring, however, that was not a critique Kingston was interested in hearing.

As if we needed any more reason to get excited for Danielson versus Kingston in the AEW World Title Eliminator tournament, Danielson is bringing the thunder to make it personal. You know Kingston is going to rise to the occasion to prove Danielson wrong, but Danielson’s confidence is overwhelming and understandably so.

Malakai Black lost to Cody Rhodes, however, he doesn’t view it as losing the war. Black is content with making the world hate Cody.

Dr. Britt Baker DMD mentioned Tay Conti’s ass in her trash-talk session on Dynamite. Conti replied by comparing action figure booties.

Baker shot back, “It’s a shame your figure won’t ever come with a title belt.” Tough call, but I’m giving that round to Conti for the funny use of figurine measurements. Who are you giving the edge to?

Taz issued a stern warning to Lio Rush for having any notions of poaching talent.

Checking in with story beats on Elevation and Dark, QT Marshall and Sammy Guevara were roughed up with a black eye and a bloody nose respectively, a debuting masked wrestler named Fuego 2 looks very similar to Cody Rhodes, and Tony Nese announced his debut next week on Dark by calling out Fuego del Sol.

Being the Elite

“Budge” - Being The Elite, Ep. 279 (here) featured:

  • The Elite discussed their notorious street fighting past as they made tough guy poses for a promo.
  • Alex Reynolds and John Silver approached Adam Cole with friendly advice about changing his gear to leather straps and exposing his tip. Cole was fed up with their shitty ideas.
  • The Young Bucks tried to recruit -1 into the Elite in an effort to increase their cool factor. -1 declined. He blocked a superkick and landed a flying crossbody off the table.
  • Ryan Nemeth was upset that Brandon Cutler included his meltdown in last week’s BTE. Nemeth vowed to find dirt embarrassing Cutler.
  • 2point0 conducted a competition between Fuego del Sol and Dante Martin for the BTE Championship #1 contender tournament. Martin was victorious in throwing a water bottle into a trashcan.

We’ll close with Chris Jericho sharing the ring with Danhausen, Will Ospreay, and Orange Cassidy with a round of tequila shots for the cruise fans. Jericho also announced that his cruise would return for the fourth year on March 14, 2022. Video courtesy of MaxPavlak98 on Twitter.
