Back when he was still Daniel Bryan, the man & his fans openly fantasized about big matches Bryan could potentially have if he were to leave WWE.
Now he’s AEW’s Bryan Danielson, and he’s going to have one of those matches against Minoru Suzuki - on YouTube.
Earlier today (Oct. 12), Tony Khan revealed he’s putting on a Buy In pre-show at 9pm ET before this Friday’s Rampage. That show will go head-to-head with the WWE’s “Supersized” SmackDown for a half-hour, so the YouTube lead-in is partly designed to get viewers thinking about AEW’s show rather than just sticking with WWE on FS1 (where the blue show’s been moved this week due to baseball playoffs airing on FOX). The Buy In will also serve to entice fans into Miami’s James L. Knight Center, where ticket sales have reportedly been slow.
Someday Danielson will get to Japan, but for now this is a nice appetizer. Is it smart to book it for the web on short notice?
We’ll let everyone debate that. While you do, here’s an updated look at AEW’s card for Fri., Oct. 15:
- CM Punk vs. Matt Sydal
- Ruby Soho vs. The Bunny
- Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Jake Hager & Sammy Guevara) vs. Men of the Year (Ethan Page & Scorpio Sky) & Junior Dos Santos with Dan Lambert & Jorge Masvidal- Bryan Danielson vs. Minoru Suzuki (Buy In pre-show)
- Bobby Fish vs. Lee Moriarty (Buy In pre-show)
