AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR JAN. 6
All our friends now seem so thin and frail. Slinky secrets, hotter than the sun. No peachy prayers, no trendy rechauffé, I’m with you to liveblog this here pro wrestling show, folks.
The show opens into the intro video.
SCU (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) & Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) vs. the Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster) & TH2 (Angelico & Jack Evans)
Bowens and Daniels to start, Christopher blasts Caster off the apron and the match breaks down into chaos! The ring clears, Kazarian lays Anthony out but Evans comes in and the match breaks right back down! Bucks and TH2 into it, lucha double teams, and eventually the Acclaimed are working Frankie over at length. The heat segment rolls on at length, until eventually Matt gets the tag and comes in hot.
Dives ahoy, scoop and a slam, headed up top and he does a plancha to the floor! Back inside, DDT for a nearfall but Bowens ain’t going down that easy! Nick and Kaz hit a BTE trigger but Evans breaks it up! Back and forth, Daniels and Matt are on the case...
SCU & Young Bucks win by pinfall with a Best Moonsault Ever / spike piledriver combo from Christopher Daniels and Matt Jackson on Angelico.
Post-match, Kazarian gets on the mic and announces his pact with Daniels that if they lose they’re never teaming again, but says that’s not happening anytime soon.
A Go-Big Show monster truck is shown driving around the parking lot while commentary hypes up the rest of tonight’s card before sending us to break.
Back from commercial, Jon Moxley makes his entrance.
He gets on the mic and says you might expect him to come out and cuss up a bloody storm about losing the title but life isn’t fair and complaining is largely a waste of time. Sometimes you end up on the bad end of a bad deal, and when that happens, sometimes all you can do is grit your teeth and take it on the chin. You plant your feet firmly in the ground and you don’t back down an inch.
So he’s not going anywhere, but what to do with Kenny Omega and the used car salesman he’s hanging around with? He’d like to go beat them both to a bloody pulp with a crowbar, but tonight the title is on the line and he gave his heart and soul to protect the integrity of that title, and Fenix deserves the opportunity he’s scratched and clawed for.
He says that when he says he’ll do something, he does it, no matter how long it takes to see that commitment through, and he’s gonna lurk in Kenny’s blind spot until one day he looks into the eyes of the devil and begs for mercy.
Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy are backstage being interviewed.
They say Trent? is out four to five months with a torn pec, and Miro, Penelope Ford, and Kip Sabian roll up to interrupt.
Miro mocks Chuck, saying he’s gonna be on the shelf too now since Trent is the talent in the team. Taylor challenges Miro to a match next week, promising to beat his big goofy ass in the middle of the ring. Miro agrees and suggests the added stakes that if he loses, Chuck has to be his young boy until the wedding. Taylor agrees, Miro calls him stupid, segment over.
Wardlow gets an inset interview where he says Jake Hager has an issue with his actions, and if he wants to throw shots, he’ll give him a war.
Jake Hager vs. Wardlow
Collar and elbow, neither man able to get much purchase, Hager with a waistlock, standing switch, a bit of mat grappling into a stalemate! Circling, Jake with a double leg, Mr. Mayhem gets away but is put into a corner with a back elbow. Hager with body blows, whip reversed, Wardlow with big right hands, Hager with a lariat, side headlock, shot off, shoulder block.
Drop down, shoulder block, neither man giving an inch, off the ropes, leapfrog, Cactus Clothesline! Brawling on the floor, punch for punch, stereo lariats and both men are down and out as we go to break.
Back from commercial, Wardlow with a huge tossing suplex, another one, a third, cover... NOPE! Mr. Mayhem with the fireman’s carry, Hager slips out, back elbow, sidestep the charge, corner body avalanches! Short-arm lariat, high-angle twisting spinebuster, only two! Back body drop puts Jake on the apron, and Wardlow blasts him off with a pounce!
Back inside, overhead belly-to-belly suplex, a German suplex to follow, still just two! Mr. Mayhem off the top... SENTON ATOMICO DOESN’T END IT! HAGER HAS THE HEAD-AND-ARM TRIANGLE BUT WARDLOW GETS A FOOT ON THE ROPES! Up top, jockeying for position, Mr. Mayhem breaks the triangle a second time with a jawbreaker over the ropes! Fireman’s carry...
Wardlow wins by pinfall with the F-10.
Post-match, Wardlow and Hager shake hands.
Private Party are backstage celebrating. Isiaha Kassidy has the gin but Marq Quen forgot the juice. Good news, Snoop Dogg is here and he brought juice! Matt Hardy rolls up and has contracts for them to sign. He asks them to trust him, they do but they bring up the chair. Hardy asks them not to fixate on that and promises to bring the potential out of them. 30% is a hefty fee, he admits, but it’s gonna be worth it.
They have a couple notes and he says that’s all covered. They sign, Hardy says they can keep their Cameo and Twitch and whatnot because he’s not a monster, and the segment concludes.
Team Taz make their entrance and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Darby Allin makes his entrance with the new TNT Championship belt, ready for the weigh-in.
Tony Schiavone hosts the proceedings and weighs Cage first, coming in at 272 pounds. Taz calls him solid muscle.
Darby goes next, and weighs in at a trim 170 pounds. Schiavone notes that it’s a hundred pound difference, and Taz points out how much Darby’s clothes must weigh, with all the metal and spikes and whatnot. Allin grabs the mic and says this feud is actually 27 years in the making because he’s been dealing with people like Taz his entire life. We all know how this ends, so he wants to get to the fun part.
Allin gets his skateboard and squares up to Team Taz. Taz orders Tony out of the ring, and the lights go out. Sting is here! Team Taz go running! Taz swears to god that next week they’ll crown a new TNT Champion.
Backstage, Jake Hager is very angry and smashing lockers when Maxwell Jacob Friedman comes in the room.
He gives Jake a shockingly good pep talk and tells him to be proud of himself. Hager says he almost dropped him when he came in, but he’s cool and he appreciates him checking on him, but he needs to leave now.
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, footage of Brodie Lee, Jr. confronting Marko Stunt on Dark last night plays.
Jurassic Express are interviewed backstage and say they’re on a quest for the tag titles.
FTR roll up to question the value of Marko making this statement, and that leads Stunt to challenge them to a match, him and Jungle Boy against Dax and Cash. FTR accept and Tully Blanchard pats him on the head, forcing his teammates to restrain ol’ Fun-Size.
Cody Rhodes vs. Matt Sydal
Circling, collar and elbow, Sydal with a standing switch, another, leg trips, stalemate! Matt with leg kicks, a roundhouse right to the neck, springboard goes wrong but he gets an arm drag out of it and hits a knee in the corner for a two count. Rhodes gets sent over the ropes, knocked down with a dropkick, slingshot dropkick, brawling against the crowd and Cody nails Serpentico with an accidental forearm!
Back in the ring, diving crossbody, Rhodes rolls through, cross the legs, Sharpshooter applied! Sydal gets the ropes, Snoop gives Cody a bit of advice and we go to break as Rhodes kicks away at Matt’s legs.
Back from commercial, inverted superplex from Rhodes, slow to cover... NOPE! Back up top, thinking about the moonsault but Sydal sidesteps! Knee strike, up top himself, Cody dodges and hits an inverted DDT! Sydal with a Cobra Clutch on the mat, into trading strikes, off the ropes, Cactus Clothesline! Back inside, ducking kicks, Rhodes hits Beautiful Disaster... ONLY TWO!
Cody going for his Cop Killer, Sydal slips out, leapfrogs up, Dragonrana... NO GOOD! Roundhouse kick into a Lightning Spiral... RHODES KICKS OUT! Jumping knee, Cody blocks, Cross Rhodes connects, he clutches him a second time...
Cody Rhodes wins by pinfall with Cross Rhodes.
Post-match, Serpentico and Luther hit the ring to beat Rhodes down! Sydal helps him fight them off, they get Serpentico in place, Snoop Dogg goes up top... SNOOP SPLASH! CODY COUNTS A PIN FOR SOME REASON! THE BELL RINGS
DOES SNOOP DOGG WIN BY PINFALL WITH A DIVING SPLASH? I DON’T KNOW!
Snoop goes and hugs Chris Jericho at commentary and slaps hands with the rest of the announce team to send us to break.
Abadon vs. Hikaru Shida (c) (AEW Women’s World Championship)
Shida attacks Abadon on the stage during her own entrance and cracks her in the head with a kendo stick! Abadon sits up and charges, they brawl, and referee Bryce Remsburg calls for the bell!
Abadon blocking forearms, looking for a bite, Hikaru rolls through, rolling arm drag, dropkick and Shida unwraps her neck revealing the wound from two weeks ago! Stomping away on the apron, running knee, Abadon bites her thigh and my wife isn’t even here to see it, for shame. Abadon throws her into the barricade, leg pick, Remsburg with the count and she rolls in to break it.
She pulls Shida under the ring and emerges with blood pouring out of her mouth! Shida crawls out, bleeding from the neck! Back inside, Abadon presses the attack and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Shida with the low bridge and a plancha to follow it up! Back inside, up top, superplex connects, off the ropes and Abadon drops her with a lariat for two! Gory Special reversed into a sunset flip, again just a nearfall! Off the ropes...
Hikaru Shida wins by pinfall with the sliding knee to retain the AEW Women’s World Championship.
Tay Conti cuts a promo on Serena Deeb saying she’s coming for the NWA Women’s World Championship and she’ll have the Dark Order in her corner to make sure she wins.
Commentary hypes up next week’s card.
Rey Fenix makes his entrance and Death Triangle get an inset promo. PAC says they move as one, but tonight Fenix will achieve greatness by himself.
Kenny Omega makes his entrance to send us to break.
Kenny Omega (c) vs. Rey Fenix (AEW World Championship)
Bit of grappling to start, Omega targeting the leg with vigor, Fenix gets back into it but Kenny spikes him with a Frankensteiner! Terminator dive set up, Rey back in, a Frankensteiner sends Omega to the floor, inverted Tiger feint, and a pump kick keeps Omega on the floor for Fenix to dive into a Frankensteiner on the floor! Back inside, Kenny ducks a springboard solebutt and hits a tornado DDT only for Rey to pop up and land on his feet!
Dropkick connects, charging in, back body drop to the apron, big overhand chop, springboard attempt, Omega chops him down clean to the floor! Trading chops, Kenny rams him into the barricade a few times, Fenix with an enzuigiri from behind the barricade, charging in, Ace Crusher reversed into a Dragon suplex on the floor! Omega pressing the attack, back suplex into the apron and then one into the barricade, clearly evil intentions on his mind!
Back inside, Kotaro Krusher for two! A backbreaker follows it, more chops, Fenix gets a headbutt, knucklelock sets up a lucha arm drag but Kenny knocks him to the apron! Springboard back up, turn it around, missile dropkick! Omega to the floor, Rey off the ropes... TOPE CON GIRO WIPES HIM OUT! Back inside, whip reversed, Finlay Roll blocked, boots up, springboard backflip into a German suplex... OMEGA KICKS OUT!
Kenny on the apron, Fenix with a springboard stomp, he falls to the floor and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Fenix striking away, blocking a suplex with a knee, superkick staggers the champ, passed into the ropes, crescent kick misses, Kenny hits a V-Trigger, Rey comes right back with another kick and both men collapse! Fenix’s chest marked up, he gets up first and goes to the apron. Tornillo... COUNTERED INTO A V-TRIGGER! Doctor Wily Bomb... NO GOOD!
Another V-Trigger... SO CLOSE! One-Winged Angel reversed into a Poison Frankensteiner! Fenix to the stage, Don Callis with the distraction, Kenny with a V-Trigger through the ropes! Drawing him up, but Fenix hits a gamengiri and then an Ace Crusher into the ring... OMEGA KICKS OUT! Fireman’s carry, shift his weight... FIRE THUNDER DRIVER STILL ISN’T ENOUGH!
Wristlock stomps to the head, Fenix goes up top, a little Eddy Guerrero shimmy... FROG SPLASH BUT KENNY GOT THE KNEES UP! Omega sets him up top, jockeying for position, Kenny catches him into the Jay Driller! Off the ropes... V-TRIGGER! REY FENIX WILL NOT DIE! Electric chair...
Kenny Omega wins by pinfall with One-Winged Angel to retain the AEW World Championship.
Post-match, Don Callis gets in the ring with Kenny and gets on the mic. He says we’ve witnessed history but they’re gonna give us something we didn’t pay for, by ending Rey Fenix’s career. Callis fakes hearing something in his ear and we get footage from backstage of Eddie Kingston, Butcher, Blade, and Bunny beating Penta el Zero M and PAC down.
Callis says this is an unsafe environment and anything can happen, and now Penta and PAC can’t save Fenix. Kenny draws up a crying Fenix... BUT JON MOXLEY IS HERE WITH A BARBED WIRE BAT! HE HITS OMEGA WITH IT IN THE GUT AND SENDS CALLIS RUNNING FOR THE HILLS!
BUT IMPACT WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS KARL ANDERSON AND LUKE GALLOWS ARE HERE TO BEAT MOXLEY DOWN! THEY TAKE HIM OUT WITH THE MAGIC KILLER!
Omega, bleeding, picks up the barbed wire bat and hits Moxley with it repeatedly! Brian Pillman, Jr. and Griff Garrison try to make the save but Gallows and Anderson make easy work of them! More babyfaces flood the ring but Kenny and the Good Brothers run them off! Gallows powerbombs a guy through a table! The Good Brothers hold Moxley up for one more good bat shot!
Moxley wakes up enough to clobber Karl with a forearm but the beatdown continues! THE YOUNG BUCKS COME RUNNING FROM THE BACK! But they try to talk sense into their former Bullet Club stablemates instead of attacking, hoping to solve this diplomatically. Griff and Pillman get up and hold Omega down... AND THE YOUNG BUCKS SUPERKICK THEM!
Omega throws up the Too Sweet, Gallows and Anderson join him, the Bucks are pensive... BUT THEY THROW ‘EM UP! THE BAND IS BACK TOGETHER!
That’s the show, folks.
