Shortly after Penelope Ford and Leyla Hirsch tried their damnedest to steal the show in a singles match on tonight’s (Jan. 20) episode of Dynamite, AEW announced that there will be a Women’s World Championship Eliminator Tournament to determine a new number one contender.

Like usual, current champion Hikaru Shida is desperate for new challengers, and her next title defense will come against someone who must first succeed in multiple tournament matches.
No other details have been revealed about this tournament. The graphic of the bracket does include enough room for 16 positions, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a thing. There is also a USA vs. Japan theme on each side of the bracket.
AEW recently booked a similar eliminator tournament for the men around October and November 2020, and it eventually culminated with Kenny Omega as the winner. He then went on to defeat Jon Moxley for the world championship.
Do you think Shida will also lose her title to whichever woman prevails in this upcoming tourney?
