The main event of tonight’s (Jan. 20) episode of Dynamite was a triple threat tag team match between six different members of the Inner Circle. This was Chris Jericho’s way of determining which pair rightfully deserves to pursue the AEW tag team titles.
The three teams consisted of the following pairs: Santana & Ortiz, Chris Jericho & MJF, and Sammy Guevara & Jake Hager (aka Sammy Hager).
Before the match, MJF talked to the non-Jericho members of the group and tried to plant the seed that the match is only happening because it’s what Jericho wanted. If it was up to MJF, they wouldn’t be fighting each other. That sure sounds to me like a guy who is trying to take the Inner Circle away from their current leader.

The ongoing tension between MJF and Guevara was on display in that backstage segment, and it seemed like a pretty good bet that the finish of the match would come down to those two men butting heads.
It was a little sloppy at the end, but that’s exactly where this story went. Guevara took out Jericho and was about to finish off MJF, but Wardlow created a distraction, allowing MJF to roll up Sammy and hold his tights for the win.
This means that Jericho and MJF will be gunning for the tag titles soon enough. But it also means that the issues between MJF and Guevara won’t be cooling off any time soon.
