Kota Ibushi apologizes for recent match, says he’s headed to surgery

Pro Wrestling NOAH Global’s X

Fans were concerned about Kota Ibushi after clips of him laboring through his main event match with Naomichi Marufuji at Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Jan. 2 The New Year 2024 show were shared around online. New & existing injuries appeared to limit the AEW-contracted star, and reports followed he’d been taken to a hospital after the match.

On Thursday, Ibushi posted a message on X apologizing to fans for the match (translation via DeepL):

I was scammed by a place called C5 Clinic, which is a nationwide clinic that I mumbled about before. Please be careful everyone.

I think NOAH will release information about my surgery, fracture dislocation, etc. Sorry for the sorry match everyone. It is all my fault.

Then in messages last night, he offered more information about the injury and surgery. The 41 year also seemed to indicate that these injuries will not be the end of his in-ring career:

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I’m sure NOAH will report back with more details, but I just wanted to let you know that the inside of my left ankle has been pretty messed up and I will be having surgery on the right ligament. I will have a release for you soon.

I am really, really sorry.

I’ve been working toward my goal of 20 years, and I think it’s time for me to be active. I still have a lot of contracts to fulfill, but I want to do it!

I try not to think too much about the future, but I have a lot of things to do, like taking care of my mother, so when the time comes, I’ll tell you about it!

Here’s hoping The Golden Star is able to address his injuries and make a full recovery. We’ll keep you posted.
