Rumor Roundup (Jan. 11, 2024): Jericho KO-ed, Tony Khan tweets, Kevin Dunn replacement, more!

All Elite Wrestling

Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that — rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.

Rumors for the Day:

  • After Brian Last mentioned a story about Chris Jericho “getting knocked out on his own cruise ship by someone he mouthed off to” on Cornette’s Drive Thru, Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net confirmed with sources that MVP and Jericho got into a “heated” exchange on Jericho’s January 2020 cruise that ended with MVP knocking out Jericho.
  • Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp tweeted that he heard the cruise knockout story “just under a year ago”. Sapp mentioned other issues between Jericho & MVP, and Cassidy’s sources also confirmed a previously reported hotel incident between the two wrestlers.
  • Tony Khan’s Tuesday tweets weren’t a heavy topic of discussion backstage at Dynamite yesterday, at least according to Fightful Select’s sources.
  • WWE’s hiring of ESPN’s Lee Fitting as Kevin Dunn’s replacement reportedly “made waves” in the production & TV departments. That from a PW Insider Elite report which said there was some concern “that an ‘outsider’ would now be above them”, and that some current WWE execs “deserved” a shot at the job.
  • PAC was in Jacksonville for Dynamite yesterday, per Fightful Select. The site notes he may have been there as part of AEW’s “multi show process” to get cleared from long-term injuries.
  • On his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T said Patrick Clark (fka Velveteen Dream) reached out to him “about three months ago” and was “trying to figure out maybe a way back into the business.”
  • Bo Dallas is still under contract with WWE, says PW Insider.
  • They couldn’t confirm if it was a full-time or “tiered per appearance” deal, but Fightful Select reports Queen Aminata has signed with AEW.
